According to Planet Sound this morning, Newcastle is to get a new music venue in October, the Academy with a 2,000 odd capacity. A 400 capacity Academy 2 is due to follow as well. This is pretty good news for Newcastle gig-goers, I reckon.

Newcastle's not exactly short of places to see bands (4 venues across the two universities, Cluny, Head of Steam, Arts Centre and the Sage), but the ones we have aren't really that great. It'll be interesting to see what the new places are like. What does everyone else make of it?
