NOTTINGHAM TONIGHT. FRIDAY.
PEOPLE:
Tonight at BUNKERS HILL INN, HOCKLEY, NOTTINGHAM is a Friday treat for all y'all.
DAMN YOU! presents I'M BEING GOOD.
IBG are the rarest of things, a band from the UK that didn't disappear after one album, or didn't blow their early promise out of the water by signing to a big label, or basically didn't ever get shit.
This band has always been ON IT. Damn You! has been first in line to put them on again and again and here we are in 2007, nothing's changed except this time we're perhaps even more excited about it all.
For the uninitiated, IBG sound like this:

It's the trick of bashing together the most far-out deconstructed, strange, marginal music with irresistable pop hooks and wonderful buzzsaw guitar attacks. It brings to mind the lovely times when Polvo, Unwound and their good buds Trumans Water ruled the indie-earth. Those bands bit the dust, IBG just got better. How Darwinian.
Not only that but in support we've got 2 tremendous musical fry-ups for you.
We have ZUN ZUN EGUI from sunny Bristol. We are excited about this. ZZE are the latest project of former Designer Babies vocaliser and drummer Kush and Nick. The DBs spread confusion over Nottingham's musical landscape for a long time and never more so than when fronted by Kush and propelled by the octopus-like Nick. They both moved to Bristol, hell - Kush is a BUSINESSMAN these days.
ZZE sees Kush finally getting round to showing off his up-to-this-point-hidden guitar skills and show them off he does (in a good way people!). ZZE could best be described as a collision between the flowing and addictive rhythms of Fela Kuti's Afrobeat with fresh sounding twisty musical backing. They have bongos.
If all this sounds a bit familiar to some bands currently making it big whose names rhyme with "Coals" and "Cattles" then imagine what you always hoped those two bands would sound like (instead of a bunch of twats showing off) and you've got ZZE - the real deal. The good stuff.

First up tonight is JUMPERS, aka Rob. But let's not call him that, let's keep him in character, Jumpers it is. We often bemoan the lack of a good indie rock band in Nottingham. Then Rob, sorry Jumpers, came along all on his own and we went "oh, right". Those lovely heartstring-wrenching moments by Pavement or Sebadoh or Silver Jews maybe, played by a man with a drum machine (if it works).
So yep. 8.30 KICK OFF. BUNKERS HILL INN. £4 ON THE DOOR.
