12 of the very best new bands from Northern Ireland Hit London for one weekend.!!!
Northern Ireland has long been recognised for its output of bands (Ash, Therapy?, Snow Patrol etc) BUT it's often very hard for those bands to make a dent in the UK because of the costs of travel and so on. So...in a fit of pique we decided to pick a dozen of the very best new bands and bring them over for one special weekend to pay at the WINDMILL BRIXTON. THE BETES NOIRES (Banbridge, Co.Down)
Eclectic and tuneful, but lovers of the volume dial, Betes Noires have been making a dint in the UK over the past few months with their energetic sound, most notably winning over heaps of Ash fans when they opened for Tim Wheeler here at the Windmill last month. http: //www.betesnoires.com
CONTRABAND (Banbridge, Co. Down)
...are Raphaelle Boland (19) on guitar and vocals, Pete Currie (21) on Bass and vocals, and Ben O¹Loan (18) on drums. If Nirvana had got backstage with Bikini Kill, thios is how their offspring might sound. http: //www.contrabandrebelgold.com
THE DEBONAIRES (Bangor, Co.Down)
"The best live band in Northern Ireland. Too many standout tracks to namedrop. Frontman Dave's surrealist line of on-stage theatrics are a sight to behold. The b*****d son of Bill Hicks and Hugh Cornwall." Clare Gill, Alternative Ulster Magazine http: //www.thedebonaires.co.uk
DIRTY STEVIE (Belfast Rock City)
"What can you say about Dirty Stevie? Brash, loud, unrepentant, they deserve to fail for so many reasons..... They have labelled themselves the best band in the country and on the evidence of this record it's becoming harder to argue with them. Bastards." Phil Crossey, Alternative Ulster File under: Juggernaut Rock. http: //www.dirtystevie.com
FAST EMPERORS (Belfast)
Alt.rock quartet dealing in moody and majestic sounds with charismatic frontman and all the other requisites it takes to make it. http: //www.edgeweather.com
THE EVANGELISTS (Muff, Co. Donegal)
Nutjobs from the Big Smoke who decided to settle down in a small village which just happened to be called Muff. Lock up your daughters, The Envangelists are here to open Day Two with a bang!!! http: //www.theevangelists.freeuk.com
FIGHTING WITH WIRE (L/Derry) Taking a day's break from the Million Dead tour on which they are main support, FWW have already completed a UK tour in January as part of KERRANG!'s 'Most Wanted' outing with Drive Like You Stole It and Yourcodenameis:Milo. Featuring Cahir from the much-loved Jetplane Landing on guitar, FWW will rock a great weekend to its close. Be there! http: //www.fightingwithwire.co.uk
LA FARO (Lisburn, Co.Antrim)
"Belfast three piece Lafaro bust onto the stage in ferocious form. Sounding a bit like McLusky strung out on Shellac and The Jesus Lizard, they have many riffs and a huge presence. ..The standard of musicianship is second to none, and it¹s pretty easy to get lost in the virtuosity at times, but the aural assault makes it all feel wholly genuine." BBC 'Across The Line'
MOJO FURY (Belfast)
One of the newest bands on the bill this weekend, Mojo Fury got going last summer and have won over many people back in Norn Iron with their full-bodied sounds.

RED SIRUS (Ballymena, Co.Antrim) Having played support slots with the likes of Snow Patrol (on the Irish leg of their sold out 2004 tour), Gorky´s Zygotic Mynci and Explosions in the Sky, as well as playing the Tennents Vital Festival in Belfast (with acts such as the White Stripes) and the Oxegen Festival in Dublin in the Summer 2004, Red Sirus come over here to dish out combination of melodic vocal and violin lead structures, ear shattering guitars and bass-driven, pounding rhythms. Oh yes.
http: //www.redsirus.com
THE SUBTITLES (Derry)
...first burst onto the scene in August 2003 and played live for the first time at a Joe Strummer Tribute concert on 15th August 2003, followed by the ³Glasgowbury² festival on 30th August 2003, headlined by The Undertones. After that they were invited to support The Undertones at The Nerve Centre in Derry. This was The Undertones first gig in Derry after the release of the new album and The Subtitles played a blinder. Since then we have not looked back. 'a full on assault of scuzzy short rock with songs that are underpinned by a tight rhythm section. They don't give a fuck and we love it.' The Fly http: //www.thesubtitles.com
YAKUZA (D.C., Co.Tyrone) From the Dungannon-Coalisland armpit of County Tyrone, Yakuza drum up eclectic influences despite their smalltown backgrounds. Think big scuzzy riffs intertwined with the intelligence of Gang of Four...no fuck that, something even cleverer - Archers of Loaf. Yakuza have rocked the Windmill very nicely on two previous occasions and this time should be even better.
