65dos mailouts unnerve me
Hello. This is a news update for the band 65daysofstatic, written from a house in Sheffield where we are discussing who pays the water bill while 65 go to Texas tomorrow morning. If you are new to this mailing list, and you were expecting something a little more in keeping with the brief, optimistic style that the media has conditioned us to expect, then we can only apologise.
We have a new album called 'The Destruction of Small Ideas'. It is out in the UK, Europe & the United States on 30th April through Monotreme Records (distribution is through either Cargo or Redeye, depending on your place in the world). The album is out in Japan on 25th April on Zankyo Records.
The Tracklisting looks like this:
1. When We Were Younger & Better.
2. A Failsafe.
3. Don't Go Down to Sorrow.
4. Wax Futures.
5. These Things We Can't Unlearn.
6. Music is Music as Devices are Kisses is Everything.
7. Lyonesse.
8. The Distant & Mechanised Glow of Eastern European Dance Parties.
9. Little Victories.
10. Primer.
11. White Peak/Dark Peak.
12. The Conspiracy of Seeds.
Upon careful listening, you will be able to hear contributions from The Mirimar Disaster, Digitonal and Circle Takes the Square.
Deep breath. Calm down. Count to ten. You read that right. Please note that this isn't in some kind of '65-are-running-out-of-ideas' way. This is in a 'Let's-make-the-best-fucking-noise-it-is-in-us-to-make-and-if-this-involves-bringing-in-people-we-trust-to-hit-blow-bow-or-scream-things-then-so-be-it'' kind of way.
You know how some bands find their sound, make a crossover album with some kind of 'name' producer and the SLICKEST of sounds to try and reach a bigger market, whilst losing all the urgency, panic and soul that made you fall for them in the first place?
That's not what you're going to get with this album. If you are anything like us (and you're on this list so we figure you must be) then you have studied your heroes and the music they made. You can plot graphs charting the rise and fall of bands that tricked you into thinking they were the ones you'd been waiting your whole life for, only for them to let you down the second they get snared by the major label machine, or get used to the taste of phone adverts.
Most likely bands fail despite their best intentions. Perhaps The Destruction of Small Ideas will be a self-fulfilling prophecy? Let's hope not, huh? The 65 family has staked a lot on this one. We're messing with the big boys, armed with nothing but battered guitars, an EXCELLENT ability to be rude to people, some fucking cool new songs and the enforced naivety that is required to believe that what we do still counts for something, somewhere, somehow. How can we possibly hope to bring this, our fight, to the Money and the Brand Monkeys and the Cross-marketing Promotions Advisers and the Shareholders and the Fucking Money that dictates what people should hear and buy and expect them to even notice our presence!?
Let's find out! We'll see you on the road and on the way down. Come and see us on the road, where we'll either be weeping with delight, or weeping. And listening to Dee-lite.
GROOVE IS IN THE HEART:
- A cut (hacked)-down version of 'Don't Go Down to Sorrow' will be released as a single in the UK on 9th April. You can see the uncharacteristically slick video, produced by 65's brothers-in-arms Medlo on our website. The B-Sides are ace and details are on to be found at 65daysofstatic.com. Go there from here at the end of all this.
- We have nothing to offer you but this album. Nothing here will save you. It is designed only to soften the blow.
- There are bands everywhere selling things for money. We’re just selling this, (except for a few t-shirts that keep us in petrol. When the petrol runs out, who knows what we’ll spend that money on?) But for now, we have come to terms with our contribution to capitalism by making this album into a CD. If you can afford to buy it, please know your purchase will go directly into putting 65daysofstatic on the road. The opposite of this theory is LIMEWIRE.
-Somewhere on the planet we have buried treasure in the form of a Seed Bank, deep underground, so when the day comes that the air is no longer breathable, 65's grandchildren can hide down there and wait for a time when it is safe to re-emerge and plant life back into the soil. We're calling this project 'Fucking Hell, the Government appears to be acting on behalf of multinational companies. I thought our vote counted? ' and we are working in conjunction with the Norwegian Science Board in order to bring it to fruition. Deal with it. Or buy the album and read the inlay to your sweet, innocent children as they lay in bed, unable to comprehend the trouble we have got them into.
