Stupid genre classifications
OK, we are about to finish a questionnaire where, among other things, the respondent has to say which genres of music they like. The numbr of genres was originally 15, but is now 29 at the last count as people keep adding new ones. We even have Soca and Americana for craps sake.
Anyway, it is supposed to be finished tomorrow but people are still getting arsey about the rock variants. Up until this afternoon, it was indie, alternative, chart and classic. Then it was decided to include classic indie and hard rock, and change alternative to plain old rock since it was too similar to Indie (Franz and Kings of Leon were in alt). Now people are talking about classic alternative and it is just doing my head in.
So currently we have
Chart rock e.g. Avril Lavigne, The Darkness, Green Day
Classic Indie e.g. The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Oasis
Current Indie e.g. Razorlight, Kasabian, The Killers
Rock e.g. The White Stripes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jet
Classic Rock e.g. The Clash, The Jam, The Who
Hard rock e.g. Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver
Suggestions for improvements? The others - metal, "adult contemporary hits", and all the dance, urban etc are pretty sorted but no-one seems to be able to agree on the rock.
And no digs about Avril, that was the boss' decision
