I just thought that I ought to say this to counter any ideas that I am taking the piss out of the idea of jesus.....I am merely taking the piss out of those who claim to hold a monopoly over the idea of jesus and therefore the moral highground that the associated compassion would bestow ...i.e the organised christian church.
I also think that jesus seriously suffers a credibility gap cos his teachings were a snapshot, and that they should be revisited in the light of 'turning the other cheek/tolerating intolerance' dilemma etc...not that I disagree with this but it needs qualifying and as a potential prophet (as everyone can be) I am searching for pithy soundbites that can qualify this without much misinterpretation....So I guess that the christians will be horrified that I think we should come up with new 'teachings of jesus'.....why.....If you see jesus as a metaphor for compassion and concern for all... why is it not possible that any human can search for a way to make compassion really win over in a world that has become cynical and run by uncompassionate, unaccountable (except in financial terms) forces, surely by trying to search out what 'jesus''s new teaching would be, even atheists and pagans are being devine.
