The REAL Record of the Year 2004
In protest at Busted getting ITV's Record of the Year, here is my own shortlist (in alphabetical order and eveything!):
Bell X1 - Eve, The Apple of my Eye
Bloc Party - Helicopter
Delays - Long Time Coming
Dogs Die in Hot Cars - I Love you 'Cause I Have To
Easyworld - Til The Day
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Futureheads - Meantime
Hope of the States - Black Dollar Bills
Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot
The Killers - Mr Brightside
The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
Razorlight - Golden Touch
The Zutons - Pressure Point
This is based on the quality of the song, as well as impact and popularity. I know there's probably a few that I've missed but I didn't put too much effort into doing this. I would say Franz's Take me Out would have to be record of the year, with Meantime a close second. The impact TMO had was huge, it has the catchiest riff since the riverboat song, and I think it has almost single-handedly got a whole new generation into indie. I was actually suprised it didn't make it onto the shortlist of the real record of the year. I guess I had too much faith in public opinion. What do you all think?
