Edward Gorey
Anyone know him?
If you don't, he was around in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, and wrote and illustrated a hundred little morbid books, often parodies on victorian childrens books, and all in an old fashioned style. Ussually telling sick little stories of black humour. His most famous work is called The Gashlycrumb Tinies, and is in the style of a Victorian childrens alphabet, but each letter tells of a child dying and can be read here: http://www.wishville.co.uk/gorey/
He also wrote some fantastic limericks including:
There was a young curate whose brain
Was derranged from the use of cocaine;
He lured a small child
To a copse dark and wild,
Then beat it to death with his cane.
