I'd never heard the term 'shoegazing' till I joined up here on DiS, about a dozen years after buying my first shoegazing record. Emo. I'm still not sure what this means. Emotional? I'm thinking it's the brand for the Good Charlottes, Yellowcard, Chevelles, Sum 41, Limp Bizkit, Blink 182s of the world. Not the sort of world I'd like to live in, but I did see Perfect Circle (I had free box seats at the Excel Center in St Paul MN) and I was pleased to see the youngsters enthusiastic enough with music to brave a snow strom.
Glam. Metal. Punk. Pop-punk. Easy listening. Etc. Prog rock? Is this Flaming Lips sorta stuff? For years and a day I didn't know what A&R stood for. I figured out M.O.R. without the Blur's help (from the song title not as the band's description) - but that might've been pure luck. ;-)
Those of us who prefer 'Alternative' hate the pidgeon hole effect of labels on our music, but they're a necessary evil to put into words the beats, melodies, and harmonies that is music. Discuss.
For anyone who is stumped on a musical term, or acronym this is your chance to ask. Mr Brainlove promises not to larf no matter how silly our questions are. ;-)
