Surprise, the support band is crap!
The Delays' thread got me thinking about the opening act. I know a big-time rock star can pick and choose the support band. But what about our favorite run-of-the-mill indie bands who're only minor hits/cult following. For example, I went to EATB here in LA twice, each night a different opener. (The Bravery in LA and Earlimart at Disneyland). Did Ian Mac personally OK, these bands? Was it the promoter who set this up? Perhaps the label's A&R guy?
BTW, both those aforementioned bands didn't suck, though clearly they weren't Bunnymen quality. (But who is!!). Also, is it a headliner trick to turn the support act's volume down?
And now for my rant. 18 and over please! Last night's EATB show was at the House of (anything but) Blues, which is located in Downtown Disneyland (a bunch of tourist traps outside the main theme park). Anyway, I've no problem with 15 yr olds sneaking in, that's not my gripe. It's the fat arsed mothers with a handful of six year old rugrats on the dance floor in front of the stage. What kind of a horrible shrew takes her little ones to a rock concert? Or maybe the baby-sitter baled-out on the Disney family. That'd be different. That I could understand. ;-) It's a simple matter of priorities, then. :-)
Thoughts and comments on underaged buggers and young supporting acts - or anything else regarding a gig's atmosphere - welcomed.
