Well, Forest of Sound have been looking for nice foresty gig for ages...

And here we have it - two days of music on a beautiful site in the Lake District overlooking the southern shores of Lake Windermere! We've got a selection of Leeds' finest (Wintermute, Glissando, randomNumber, The Declining Winter, Hub) and some excellent bands from further afield as chosen by us and the lovely people at Fell Foot Wood. It's only £16 for a weekend of music and camping too. Ace.

What's on offer?

FRIDAY 29th August from 5pm:
• Lake Me – Hypnotically repetitive yet ever changing alt. rock textures from this guitar/drums/vocals duo. Lake Me have perfected the ability to write the kind of deceptively simple yet stunning songs that will work their way in to your subconscious.
• Hub – Fresh from their recent supports of Red Sparowes and iLiKETRAiNS, Hub have honed their melodic, melancholic and frankly huge sounding music to a tee. Expect subtlety, understatement and poignancy… and even more of a thrill when they bring in the noise.
• Phantom Dog Beneath the Moon (Rusted Rail) – Subtle flecks of electronic noise cover tender singer/songwriter compositions in a blanket of noise, ambience and wonderful static in the world of Phantom Dog Beneath the Moon. Supremely crafted music.
• John Fairhurst (Humble Soul) - an unbridled joyous explosion of simple textures, thrilling musicianship and handsome melodies – gloriously intricate folk/blues finger picking at it’s very best.
• Death in Public – Insistent and gloriously distorted, Death in Public brood their way through slabs of guitar noise and impassioned alt. rock.
• Mirrorkill – Righteously angry pop melodies coupled with lo-fi post punk grit.

SATURDAY 30th August from 5pm:
• randomNumber (Rock Action/Highpoint Lowlife) - A heady amalgamation of lonely moorland melodies and switchblade urban rhythm play, randomNumber and the music he produces are firm Forest of Sound favourites.
• Wintermute (On the Bone Records) - Perfectly honed guitar music: purely emotive, stunningly executed and impossible to not be bowled over by live... that's Wintermute. It's all there, and delivered with an intensity and passion that simply isn’t matched much these days.
• The Declining Winter (Rusted Rail) – The musical project of Richard Vincent Adams, that sounds like "cassette tapes spilling out of the glove box of a 1970's Datsun Sunny somewhere in the north of England, captured on Super 8 film". Live he is joined by a few more people to bring the beautiful pastoral feel to life, and they have recently toured with ambient legends Stars of the Lid. Wonderful stuff.
• Glissando (Gizeh Records) - A purely heartfelt and emotive mixture of folk, ambient, electronica and the kind of noise you'd expect to hear being made by Low, The Album Leaf, Rachel's or The Cocteau Twins.
• Mato and the Deep Blue Sea – Eerie, experimental and beautifully detached instrumental mixes of electronics, folk melodies and pure noise.
• Dan Haywood's New Hawks (Timbreland Recordings) – Pastoral folk playfulness with an ever present hint of darkness and longing.

Site Summary
Fell Foot Wood overlooks the southern shores of Lake Windermere and has discrete areas for camping with flush toilets, washing facilities and filtered spring water. There is a large controlled camp fire in the glade and the stage noted for its excellent acoustics. There is shelter incorporated alongside the stage and in the glade to ensure the weather does not detract from the overall experience. There is adequate parking for the site alongside good tracks.

Passes for music and camping over are £16 per person for the weekend or £9 per day (vehicles are £2 per extra per night). Bookings with card payment and other enquiries should be made to Barry (who owns and runs the site) on 015395 31014. Spaces are limited to 170 campers so early booking is advised.
