15 June GEAR @ The Vine
Liquor, the debut single by Gear (which entered the Radio 1 Rock Singles Top Ten last week), is doing the band loads of favours. The Cumbrian quartet have been on a tour of schools where the audiences have been going wild for them, and playing a string of secret & guerilla gigs around the uk in their hard-to-miss fluorescent van! (- band mailing list at http://www.gear.uk.com -) Picking up the seeds of a devoted GEAR change in rock'n'roll on the way... ...It's gone so well that Ross, Dan, Pete and Dom are up for coming and playing by request... "If you don't hear Liquor playing from the window of the angry 15-year old down your road before the end of the summer we'll eat our hat. And we'd hazard a guess that Gear are even better live" (Heckler Spray). Loved by punks of all decades for their already classic tunes (Mick Jones, Glen Matlock, Julien Temple and The Buzzcocks who invited them on tour recently, included), Gear are mad bastards. That much we know. No challenge too big and no stupid suggestion rejected out of hand without due care and attention. Someone bet that they couldnt play in a van. They got in the gearmobile (which has to be seen to be believed!) and drove around playing where anybody would let them, London and beyond. If you have a drive, a car park, a big enough living room and would like some intense, rock energy as up close and personal as it gets, you know who to contact! band @ gear.uk.com - In the mean time, catch them live on stage on 15th June in Leeds at The Vine (£4 entry) and keep an ear and eye out for more last minute shows! 16 June THE GLITTERATI @ The Cockpit (10pm curfew!!! arrive early!)
The Glitterati formed just two years ago. Paul, Jon, Nic and Billy were in different bands in their hometown of Leeds before moving to London. All had grown frustrated by the limited vision of their peers. But when the five came together in a new band, everything clicked. They shared a love of classic rock ‘n’ roll : The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses and a hunger to succeed. Talk about highly rated... Kerrang! calls them "a stadium rock band done garage style." NME proclaimed them "brash and brilliant." The Sunday Times said they carry the swagger of Thin Lizzy and the glamour of Ziggy-era Bowie. The Guardian says their songs are "strong enough to propel them into the big league." They are THE GLITTERATI. A rock band so good that the producer of Guns N’ Roses’ world-beating ‘Appetite For Destruction’ album chose to work with them (G'n'R's own Slash endorses The Glitterati). The Glitterati have self-belief bordering on outright cockiness, who believe they can be the biggest and the best in the world. A band who, to quote Kerrang! again, "look like God's gift to the stage and sound utterly honed for success." In short, a band that matters. They're getting set up for the album with a vengeance, a recent warm up gig at London's Dirty South attracted response of the We Are Not Worthy kind. This show is a homecoming Friday night out! http://www.myspace.com/theglitterati
17 June HEY GRAVITY! @ The Faversham with Jeremy Warmsley
Described by Drowned In Sound as "A hybrid of the venemous Karen O combined with the sultry confidence of Debbie Harry", Hey Gravity! front-woman Justine takes no prisoners. The band are a boys-n-grrlz rock machine that have made a strong impression since they launched (to a PACKED OUT Camden Barfly headline in February - not bad for a first gig!). They've been shortlisted from thousands as one of the Road-to-V Festival contenders, played the BPI's British Music Week event (with Razorlight/Belle & Sebastian), bigged up big time by Xfm's John Kennedy, and invited to Germany to perform before England games during the World Cup. Justine and guitarist Anna say "”obviously the world cup is going to be a big focus for everybody in June and if David Beckham or Michael Owen need spurring on then they could do no better than listen to us before they go out on to the field - also us playing a show like this, good natured and with great atmosphere, will hopefully just contribute something positive to the whole spirit of the occasion.” Their debut single, Inside Out, is an instant noise pop classic (available on all formats and via iTunes) and has led to the band being in discussion with various record labels and publishers. Why watch this space when you can watch Hey Gravity! live on stage (get up close while you CAN!) http://www.heygravity.com http://www.myspace.com/heygravity
