OK gang due to its ever increasing popularity, Rock Night Satellite is going regular on the second Thursday of ever month. So why don't you do me all a favor and pretend to put it in your diaries and if you really can't be bothered catching all those dirty buses, dodging hoodies brandishing blades, and finally arriving at a venue that's as welcoming as an Austrian courthouse to a Holocaust denier, then i suggest you strap a blender to your ass and pretend to be a boat in your own bath tub.
Headlining we have the Manc/French hybrid that is THE CLERKS. There are a superb four piece capable of some dynamite epic lo-fi pop, art-pop-rock glory kids or nonstop post-punk stomp depending on who's press you've read and decided to plagiarize. Zane Lowe thinks they are spectacular, the BBC raved about them at In The City last year and they recently blew the doors off Cargo. Tonight they are welcomed to the pokey wee N16 hole that is Ryan's for one of those special intimate gigs and it's going to be fantastic. If you want to say i saw them before they were huge, get down here, alternatively tune into Eastenders and watch Pat Butcher lay a dump on Well'ard's head.
Next up we have the EXGIRLFRIENDS and firm favorites at Ryan's. There show was that good last month that the audience demanded i get them back for more. It has nothing to do with the fact i'll be releasing a record by them shortly and i want to give them as much of a profile as i can. But, seriously, these guys really rock, their lyrics are insane, their rifts so filthy you'd think you'd just appeared in Michael Haneke's, 'The Piano Teacher'.
Past stellar performance's have included the Spitz and supporting Martin Creed at the Rhythm Factory were i recently saw Pete Doherty pike a guy on the end of his mic stand before donning a white shirt and looking like Elvis.
Dark, fun and generally unhinged, they have the best front man this side of Roy Orbison. Expect their debut single to rise to the top of The Rough Trade charts if i can afford the bribe.
You know me, i often book without hearing a peep and that's what i've done here with SATELLITES.
A threesome hailing from London, Mallorca and Spain, they've done the works including a support slot to Proud Mary at the Islington Academy, a show for Rockfeedback and a spot at Alan McGee's Death Disco, where to date no-one has actually died.
2 albums recorded in Gordon Raphael's studio and a third one currently in the ether, they're sure to have more tunes to get you going than Phil Collins.
So why not don your glad rags, pinch some cash out of your mother's purse and ride a chinchilla through the doors of the biggest little pub in town.
With more friends than even Tom on myspace,THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND are destined to become a contemporary cultural phenomenon.
These lads never fail to impress as they continually swap instruments, improvise and generally cause more mayhem than a Jack Russell rummaging through a kid's cot. 'Rocket In My Hand,' is a sure fire hit and has recently been adopted by Hamas as their anthem whilst, 'Fight,' will have you driving your best pal's head through a glass door in an instant.
Generally, decent chaps, your never short of a bit of unscheduled entertainment. For the Christmas Special, in which we saw Jesus levitate through the doors, the boys even brought a long a few bells. Ahh, ain't that sweet!
