WRECK 3
Heads-up.
If you're bored with all the other, dull and crap music nights then this is for you:
WRECK THREE: Thursday the 23rd of Feb.
With the glorius:
ACOUSTIC LADYLAND:
The band hammered through raunchy tenor licks over rumbling drum'n'bass sounds, trancelike dance-floor hooks blurring into free-sax howls, power-chord rock, briefly dreamy episodes for soft horn-playing, jingly keys and Rochford's lazy slow-funk pulse, and a Coltranesque lament.
KILL KENADA:
As the name suggests, they're both violent and surreal, a bloodied blush of desperate and jagged rifts, nuggets of discombabulated pop and a scree of splattered lyrical spirally. Think Nirvana by way of Melt Banana,Pavement with muscles where their affected wan-ness oncewilted. 'Screamo' torn between impulses towards Destiny's Child and Captain Beefheart.
AKIRA:
Electronic drums combine with fractured guitars to give host to textured, abrasive, evil, technoid post-rock/pop/punk for the apocalypse. With cues from: Mogwai/Nirvana/Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Served with a smile.
POPULAR WORKSHOP:
...formed in January 2005 through an ad on drownedinsound.com - been rehearsing since at Enterprise Studios on Denmark Place and drinking at The George across the road or the Jack Horner down Tottenham Court Road - inspired by many-a-band to make propulsive fucked-up unhinged beautiful pop music - named after Atelier Populaire - be realistic, demand the impossible - guitars fly - drums collapse...
