THE SPOOK SCHOOL
The Spook School’s latest album, Try To Be Hopeful, is brim full of noisy, tuneful and triumphant queer pop songs about identity, sexuality and being awesome. Since forming in 2012 they’ve become increasingly involved with the DIY queer punk scene, taking inspiration from the passionate, like-minded people they’ve met along the way, and from bands such as Martha, Joanna Gruesome, Trust Fund and Tuff Love. Citing influences including Buzzcocks, T-Rex and the noisier end of C86, the new album is louder, bolder, fuller-sounding and captures more of their live sound—aided and abetted by producer MJ of Hookworms.

EXPERT ALTERATIONS (US)
Expert Alterations are a jangle pop band from Baltimore, USA, founded in March of 2013 by Paul Krolian, Alan Everhart and Patrick Teal. Deadpan vocals mingle with sparkling, chiming guitars and an insistent rhythm borne out of the tenacious, nervous energy of The Fall. Expert Alterations’ influences range from the well-trod (TVPs, The Pastels, The Wedding Present) to roads less traveled (Yeah Yeah Noh, Close Lobsters) and they process them into songs that leave them poised to become the new standard-bearers of such whipsmart pop tunes, using the detailed map of their predecessors to chart a course to a musical utopia where sonic hooks are paramount and wry lyrics celebrated.

EVANS THE DEATH
Named after the undertaker in Dylan Thomas’s ‘Under Milk Wood,’ Evans the Death’s 2012 self-titled first album mixed Smiths-influenced indie with scratchy noise-pop topped by Katherine Whitaker’s striking vocals. The brilliant debut saw critical acclaim from Q, Uncut and Artrocker, and radio play on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music and XFM.

After a change in line-up, the band regrouped for the recording of ‘Expect Delays’, a more ambitious and focused record encompassing additional influences including shoegaze and indie-rock whilst sacrificing none of the band’s spontaneity and vitality. The band’s third album "Vanilla", their most ambitious and experimental work to date, was released via Fortuna POP! in June.

SPINNING COIN
Spinning Coin are a fiercely independent rock group from Glasgow, something you could probably guess by listening to any of their songs. Their cascading melodicism (topped with some amazing shredding) connects them to the Glasgow music scene associated with Orange Juice, Teenage Fanclub, and, of course, The Pastels, their current champions, who released their first modestly magnificent effort “Albany” as a 7” on their Geographic Music imprint.

YOUNG ROMANCE
Young Romance are an indiepop duo whose musical evolution wraps joyous vocals depicting a sorrowful narrative in a blanket of distorted guitars. Last year they put out their first EP Wild on Banquet Records on the back of support slots with the likes of Summer Camp, Slow Club and Mystery Jets. Keep an eye out for the release of their debut LP coming soon.

WOLF GIRL
Wolf Girl are a hairy, scary garage pop four-piece based in South London. Formed in September 2012, it's been said they both do and don't sound like the Ramones, and they have also been compared to both the Shop Assistants and Bratmobile. Their debut EP “Mama’s Boy” was released on limited edition cassette on Soft Power Records in 2014, and their debut album “We Tried” came out through the wonderful Oddbox Records earlier this year.

CHARLA FANTASMA
Charla Fantasma are Camille, Louise and Elsa, a pan-european three-piece girl gang from London, shimmering away in the gaps between Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney with two-part vocals, heart-booming guitar lines and a no fucking about Ramones electricity.

The Whooperups are Anna from The Spook School, Becky from Wolf Girl and Camille from Charla Fantasma, playing songs influenced by young adult fiction, vegan meatball subs, space-time and the 2003 remake of Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan.

Porridge Radio began life as Dana Margolin's bedroom recordings, but over the years have developed into a 5 piece live musical stage show. There is lyrics, singing, yelling and sometimes costumes, strung together by a band with a carefully crafted lack of professionalism.

Mad Kid Library Trap is more than a music project: it's the outpouring of one of the most effortlessly subversive artists you've ever crossed paths with.
