Lesley Woods (Au Pairs) and Helen McCookerybook. Prince Albert Brighton 19.4.15
19/4/15 Lesley Woods, formerly from influential post punk band The Au Pairs, appears at The Prince Albert, 48 Trafalgar St, Brighton BN1 4ED. With special guest Helen McCookerybook.
Post punk band The Au Pairs made 2 LPs, several singles, recorded sessions for John Peel and were led by Lesley Woods, once described as 'one of the most striking women in British rock'. Their guitar based angular music (often compared to Gang of Four) explored politics & gender relations. Lesley later formed an all female group, The Darlings, left the music industry and is now back.
While attending Brighton art college Helen McCookerybook was a member of Joby and the Hooligans & The Chefs. She later formed Helen and the Horns. Helen's made several solo albums including a co-release with Martin Stephenson and wrote 'The Lost Women of Rock Music: Female Musicians of the Punk Era'.
