Sad House Daddy & 167Live Present: THE SHOWHAWK DUO
Fresh from their most successful year yet (which saw them playing to huge audiences at everywhere from the Glastonbury Festival and Kendal Calling to the Secret Garden Party, the Edinburgh Festival and even a residency at Pacha in Ibiza), The ShowHawk Duo are launching their second album “Take 2” with a U.K. tour that kicks off at The Drury Club in London.
The ShowHawk Duo are Mikhail Asanovic, a classically trained guitarist, and Jake Wright, a well-seasoned self-taught rock musician, who met whilst busking in their home town of Bath. Their eclectic and energetic playing style spans a huge spectrum of genres, from ‘70s rock hits to gypsy jazz to operatic overtures. Live videos of the pair reinventing trance and rave classics such as Darude’s ‘Sandstorm’ and ‘Insomnia’ by Faithless on two acoustic guitars have gone viral, as has a recent mash-up of Daft Punk classics.
They break down barriers between genres and rethink musical structure to create an all-encompassing style in which the listener is never quite sure what is coming next. Mikhail’s classical foundation shines through in the ShowHawk Duo’s music with embellished melodies soaring over the energetic rhythm parts. This classical style pitched against the more abrasive, rhythmic paroxysms characterized in Jake Wright’s playing complement each other in this seemingly incongruous partnership to create one unified sound.
