A relationship question
Hello DiS, it's been a while.
I've come on to ask a specific question that I'd rather do with partial anonymity, on the internet. I have a new girlfriend, of about a month, who I feel I have really clicked with and I am genuinely excited about the prospect of where it could go. She is overweight, I am not. Already, typing that feels really shallow and judgemental, but I don't feel it impacts on our personal relationship at all, and I don't see why it should. What worries me slightly is if people I know well were to pay too much attention to it. I realise people will say that the opinion of others doesn't matter and only our two opinions count, which I agree with. But that doesn't stop the concern that people I care about, parents for example, may not understand how irrelevant that issue is for me. I wouldn't condone a parent, for example, disapproving our relationship because of her weight, but I could imagine it being an issue at some point. There is a weight obsession in culture, which I am guilty of partaking in before and probably even now, and I can now begin to appreciate that a little more.
