Fri June 7 - Unpop DJ at How Does It Feel To Be Loved? in Brixton
Ding dong! This is Friday night in Brixton...
We're back at the Canterbury Arms in Brixton this Friday for another night of indiepop and northern soul dancing. Our guest DJs are from Unpop, Edinburgh's superb indiepop club, who'll be making their debut appearance at HDIF. The trio have DJ-ed at Indietracks and know exactly how to get a dancefloor hopping, so we're in for a grand night. Expect indiepop, indiepop and indiepop, with some extra indiepop on the side if we're lucky!
Indie song of the week: "Making Money" by Camera Obscura. The new Camera Obscura album is out today, and a lovely thing it is too. This song shimmies and shakes and wiggles its hips with a sparkle in its eye.
Soul song of the week: "Who Do You Love?" by Jo Ann & Troy. Have you heard this before? I stumbled upon it yesterday for the very first time and was blown away. It's a handclapping, footstomping, super happy version of "Who Do You Love" by Bo Diddley, a song which has some of the darkest lyrics ever. "I walk 47 miles of barbed wire/I use a cobra-snake for a necktie/I got a brand new house on the roadside/Made from rattlesnake hide." Yay, let's party!
