AN 'IN THE CITY' SHOWCASE:
GREAT BEAR (11.00pm)
www.greatbeartheband.com
Great Bear are a Stoke Newington based 4-piece guitar band who have been playing gigs in and around London for a couple of years, building up a reputation for their energetic and uplifting shows. Get out their tracks and try to stay still!
“inhabiting a London world where Blur drop all the art-school bollocks and Supergrass have a shave and learn to dress with a bit of class…” Drowned in Sound
CALVOON (10.00pm)
www.calvoon.co.uk
Following hot on the heals of their acclaimed debut release “Come On”, the four piece Geordie gang deliver another blow to the earpieces with their Pat Collier produced second single. Electro-rock killer “CominOnStrong2TheMaximum” (out on 24th October) is sure to set the decks and dancefloors alight with its rock ‘n’ roll riposte to the rave culture the lads grew up with in no-hope Newcastle. Distribution is via Genepool / Universal, acknowledged for supporting Necessary Records’ first releases of a previously little known act called Hard-Fi.

“Calvoon aren't here to ponder philosophically on the order of things, merely to have a good time and take their audience with them.”

THE BISHOPS (9.00pm)
www.thebishopsband.com www.myspace.com/thebishopsuk
Featuring twins Mike & Pete Bishop, this three piece is causing a considerable stir in the London clubs. Their mop-topped hair-do's and synchronated moves on stage might be alarmingly nostalgic at first but the sheer presence of their pop tunes match their wide grins, making them totally irresistable. So much so, in fact, that their debut single is scheduled for release just days after this gig on Marquis Cha Cha Records aka Pure Groove!
VIDEOFAN (8.00pm)
www.videofan.co.uk
Videofan play fine punky sounds with passion, wit, and half-an-eye on a big stage. Their classic anthem "God bless America, God help the rest of us" would be a fine MTV-friendly sound to stir the minds of the Busted generation. Videofan write grand guitar pop with a sense of fun, energy and humour. Just a manic pop thrill. Also, check out their stunning Maroon 5 sized hit-to-come, "Hello" currently being used on a Virgin email advert.
