Special Oxford show with Leeds-based quintet Ellen & the Escapades, conjuring up a delicate folk magic, weaving subtle melodies and swooping rhythms around the husky tones and lyrical delicacies of singer Ellen Smith, bringing to mind echoes of yesterdays gone.
After winning last year’s Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition and playing BBC Introducing stages at both Reading and Leeds Festivals, charming audiences at festivals all over last Summer -plus bagging supports for the likes of Josh T. Sam Lewis makes heartfelt, passionate music with tinges of blues, country, folk and soul, all played with a vitality that is fast becoming his trademark style.
After some 5 years on the road with KT Tunstall, his debut album “Everything You Are” featured KT herself on vocals. The album received a 4-star review in Mojo, BBC online, Americana monthly and Q track of the day. Sam has supported legendary folk guitarist Bert Jansch at the Roundhouse, and follow up album “The City and I” is due for release this year.
