Sat Feb 18th - Wave Pictures DJ at HDIF in central London
Our guest DJs at HDIF at The Phoenix on Saturday are the wonderful Wave Pictures. David, Franic and Jonny started doing guest DJ slots for us at The Phoenix before switching to the Canterbury Arms for a couple of years, so it's nice to be able to welcome them back to central London. Their very first guest set, in 2008, saw them playing "Touch Me I'm Sick" by Mudhoney(!), while recent sets have featured Elvis, the Rolling Stones, rock'n'roll, Sun records and so on. The band's new single, "Eskimo Kiss" is out this week, so Saturday also serves as a single release party of sorts - come out and celebrate with us!
Indie song of the week: "Long Black Cars" by The Wave Pictures. We don't usually have the indie song of the week being by the guest DJs, but the title track of the trio's new album is an infectious, harmonica driven dancer. Can't wait to play it!
Soul song of the week: "40 Days 40 Nights" by Don Covay & The Goodtimers. Talking of infectious dancers, here's another!
