Firstly thanks very much if you made it along to Pin Up Nights: Intergalactic a few weeks ago. A wonderful evening and appropriately for a (loosely) space-themed night we welcomed a constellation of music stars. In addition to our own live performers Den Haan, Nevada Base and Fiction Faction, there was Mystery Spaceman Andy from Frightened Rabbit, the rest of Andy's band, Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, the Twilight Sad chaps and also Admiral Fallow (who had earlier played a sold out show at the APeeC). The utterly bonkers gang behind Edinburgh quiz It's Funtime also deserve a special mention for the havoc they wreaked in the Kitchen. Words don't do Intergalactic as a whole justice, so check out the pictures here - http://www.pinupnights.co.uk/events/pin-up-nights-intergalactic-friday-27th-january-2012.
There are now just 2 Pin Up Nights left and our penultimate party is our Ladies Night. Pin Ups Ladies Nights have never been anything less than jam-packed and have surely become a fixture on the calendar of anybody in Glasgow who has a clue (here, for example, are snaps from 2010's edition - http://www.pinupnights.co.uk/events/pin-ups-ladies-night-3-friday-26th-february-2010/).
Since 2008 we have treated attendees to (amongst others) The Pipettes, a Kitsune band, loads of Glasgow's top indie ladies Guest DJing, some of the very best Scottish bands of the era (Miss the Occupier, Paper Planes, Boycotts, Any Color Black, Conquering Animal Sound), Hunky Secret Treat Paolo Nutini, and last month we provoked giddy thrills by revealing via Facebook that our Guest DJ this time was to be heart-throb Joe Gilgun of TV shows This is England/Misfits
Unfortunately Joe had to cancel at very short notice (expect to see him in soaking breeches in a plum period drama role screened later this year), and we went crazy for a few days trying to identify an alternative. We're delighted to announce that Joe's replacements are hunky Benny and Tom from Wild Beasts (http://www.wild-beasts.co.uk/), who will return to Pin Ups 5 years after we gave them one of their first gigs outwith their home town of Kendal. During those 5 years they've gone from unknowns to becoming established as one of the most louche, melodic and critically respected bands in the UK. Here's Benny in his trade mark vest performing lead vocals on the fantastic "Reach A Bit Further" - http://youtu.be/Pk1azT3GFkE
Given the special circumstances of the penultimate Pin Ups we have also managed to coax Fence Records' KId Canaveral (http://www.kidcanaveral.com/home) out of 2nd-album-writing-hibernation to be our live headliners, and they'll be supported by Pin Ups veterans The Plimptons (http://www.theplimptons.co.uk/), and, as is traditional, a top-class loud and lively lady-fronted band - this year we present Fanny Pelmet and the Bastard Suits (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fanny-Pelmet-and-the-Bastard-Suits/157087541014570).
Fanny Pelmet's name is a fairly big clue that we want the final Ladies Night to be less cuddly than its predecessors, and to that end we have booked 3 burlesque acts to strut their stuff round midnight. Vendetta Vain (http://www.vendettavain.com/) and Tom DeLish (http://www.facebook.com/TomDeLish) will already be familiar to those of you who attended our sensational Red Light Night (http://www.pinupnights.co.uk/events/red-night-light-pictures) - they were the performers who jumped around the dancefloor half-naked - and we'll also be welcoming Babette Corvette (http://www.facebook.com/wiggy.s.jacques).
These are all the big ticket attractions, but we have other action we want to add to the line-up (and would have had added by now had it not been for the Mr Gilgun drama), and you should know by now that with Pin Ups there is the very real possibility that anything can and will happen. Get your advance tickets NOW for a bobby bargain £6 - http://www.pinupnights.co.uk/info/tickets.
With "anything can and will happen" in mind we also want to really push our luck with the final ever Pin Up Nights on Friday 30th March. Chemikal Underground's new signing Miaoux Miaoux (http://soundcloud.com/miaouxmiaoux/miaoux-miaoux-hey-sound) and Sonny Marvello (http://sonnymarvello.net/) are already booked to play live, and we also want to bring our all-time hero JARVIS COCKER to Glasgow to bring down the curtain on 8 years of great music, chaos and hilarity.
Read all about the GET COCKER campaign and petition here- http://www.pinupnights.co.uk/fanzine/get-cocker-please-sign-our-get-jarvis-cocker-petition/
