OK folks, get out your broomsticks. Not for your Pin Up Frights witch costume, but to sweep up all the names we're about to vulgarly drop! Frank McAvennie, Aidan Moffat, Paolo Nutini, and chaps from The Twilight Sad and Errors were all at Pin Ups Red Light Night, while at Pin Up Frights this month you can expect to see and meet (at the very least) Carl Barat, Didz Hammond, Scott Paterson and Adele Bethel (Sons & Daughters)!
September's Red Light Night was one of our favourite nights yet, if you came (oo-er) we hoped you enjoyed the peep show, the burlesque performers and everything else as much as we did. We even featured in the Sun's 'Bizarre' column with our picture of Moffat, McAvennie and Nutini together in 'Club Macca'! http://www.thesun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/3850091/To-be-Frank-whos-Paolo.html Pictures of all the action will follow shortly.
If you haven't ever been to Pin Ups before or haven't been for a while then you have to come along and see for yourself what all the fuss is about - we've been running these nights for almost 8 years and as a wise man once said, nothing ever lasts forever. Don't wait till we're gone! This month is the perfect time to break that duck as we're aiming to go one better than September with our Frights night and we honestly believe we've got a bill that can do it!
Carl Barat was the co-frontman of The Libertines, now widely acknowledged as being the best guitar band of the noughties, and with the Libertines having soundtracked many a Pin Ups party in the past it's going to be amazing to have Carl himself in the room picking the tunes and looking all handsome. Carl's Dirty Pretty Things collaborator Didz is joining him on his trip to Glasgow, and as if that wasn't enough startling star-power we will also be welcoming long-term pals of Pin Ups Scott and Adele from Sons and Daughters to Guest DJ following their live show at the ABC.
Pin Up Frights is now firmly established as our annual Halloween spooktacular and if you fancy dressing up this October then this is definitely the party to come to. Last year "Lady Avatar", "Mr Motivator", and "The girl covered in fairy lights" and all won cash prizes for their quite astonishing costumes which flaunted health, safety and common decency, and this year we are looking forward to similarly inspired ensembles. Approximating the polo-neck chic of former Apple supremo Steve Jobs will be taking a few folks' fancy, and, given Carl's involvement, rocking up as his old chums Pete Doherty or Amy Winehouse will also be tempting propositions. Mind you, since Amy was Carl and Pete's pal, the person who tweeted "Cant wait for PinUp Frights with Carl Barat DJING i am going as Zombie Winehouse" might want to reconsider....
We have been boasting that "there's so much going on at Pin Up Frights it's scary" and this year even the door price is going to give a few people a fright. In order to balance the books it will be 8 quid, so if being asked for 8 quid is likely to make you act like we've shot you in the face with a spud gun then we urge you to buy tickets in advance for the bargain price of £6.
You can buy these £6 tickets here:

Of course our guest DJs aren't the only terrifying action we've got up our sleeves for Frights. Playing live before midnight we've got the fantastic Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 (http://www.myspace.com/thepingpongbananashow). The band are planning to film their gig for an upcoming video and have already announced they'll be dressing up for the occasion as their favourite 'dead gay icons' and getting right into the 'spirit' of Pin Up Frights...
Also playing live are another 2 bands who we're really happy to welcome back to Pin Ups. Skinny Villains (http://www.myspace.com/skinnyvillains) are always good value and big fans of Carl Barat. Described by The List as "unpredictable and lively showmanship" expect more of the same on 28th. Tokamak (http://www.myspace.com/tokamakband/blog/542469018) played Pin Ups in May and were so good we wanted them back as soon as possible.
As well as the bands on the main stage we've even more guest DJs to enjoy. Long term friend of Pin Ups, and one of the most hardworking DJs in Glasgow, Chambre 69s Craig McGee will be back on the Pin Ups decks. We also welcome back the very handsome Martin Craig who is an experienced DJ of RAWK fun at Maggie Mays, and our very good friend with exceptional taste in the tune department Miss Natalie F (@FAMOUSWHENDEAD on Twitter).
The Kitchen at the Duck will also be transformed into 'The Incredible Haunted Agwaland". Pin Ups has long been associated with the delicious Bolivian liquor and this month Agwa are providing lots of delicious shots, goodies and giveaways to vandalise the Kitchen and quench your dancing thirst!
Phew! This is going to be a 'good one'....we haven't even mentioned the usual Halloween treats, decorations, tricks and fear-filled hilarity that'll be going on throughout the Duck. Following the success of Club Macca, where Frank McAvennie entertained a bevvy of beauties in his own 80s/West Ham themed room of the Duck, we may also create "Carl's Cave" - we shall see.
Can't wait to see yoooooouuuuuu.......(cackle cackle cackle)
Pin Ups x
p.s if you're still not convinced all this action is worth your £8 (or £6), Pin Ups has been made aware Carl Barat is DJing on the Saturday night somewhere near Bathgate and they're charging £12...for him....and nothing else - "you do the math".
