Skullflower + Arabrot + Dethscalator + Iron Fist of the Sun - Manchester - 29/10/11
Facebook Event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=110987795675852
Manchesters monthly alternative and experimental showcase returns with a mind blowing halloween special!
Never being afraid to mix things up a little, we have managed to pull together a ridiculously heavy, noise filled, experimental music night especially for this halloween's frolics. Gathering together a selection of highly praised and influential artists along with some fresh faced newcomers to showcase the cream of the experimental and extreme music scene...
Live Acts include:
SKULLFLOWER (Cold Spring/Crucial Blast)
'Skullflower emerged in the 1980s as a guitar-based spawning of the UK industrial/noise underground of the that included Whitehouse as well as the Broken Flag label scene of which Skullflower's members were also a part. Matthew Bower discontinued the influential unit in the late 90's to continue on with such psychedelicized noise projects as Total, Sunroof, and the Hototogisu. Skullflower's re-emergence in the last few years with different collaborators have found their music as wrecked and amazing as ever' - WFMU Radio

ÅRABROT (Fysisk Format/Norway Rat)
Since starting out in 2001, Årabrots main core has been Kjetil Nernes (songwriter, guitar and vocals) and Vidar Evensen (drums and visuals), and in recent years noise artist Stian Skagen has been a regular on-and-off member of the band. Collaborating with producers such as Billy Anderson (Melvins, Neurosis), Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh) and Steve Albini (Nirvana, High on Fire) the band has released three full-length albums and a grotesque bouquet of singles and EPs. 2009 alone produced two critically acclaimed Eps AbsoluteNegativism and I Rove, together with a double LP with side project Nernes/Skagen, and last but not least the masterpiece The Brother Seed, the latter earning lots of international attention and a Norwegian Grammy nomination.
Årabrot is about to represent for this generation what the sum of Melvins, Birthday Party and Swans was to the generation before them; a source of pleasure from both auditory and moral excesses. The bands foundation is noise-rock, but has strong elements of industrial music and noise. In Årabrot there is also a dramatic component few other bands in history possess: histories are told and emotions are laid out in a way thats closer to the compositional techniques of experimental film and theatre than traditional song structure. Last but not least they are drawn to the lyrics that combine elements of two of the most stimulating works of human kind: The Bible and Pornography.

DETHSCALATOR (Riot Season/Black Labs)
Dethscalator make music that is heavy and mentally disabled that you could place somewhere between the jabbering gush of Scratch Acid and Electric Wizards misery-grind. Other more contemporary reference points like Shorty, Pissed Jeans or Mayyors could be pointed out but I wouldnt bother. Just listen to the record. Its a sick specimen with a vocalist that sounds like Oliver Reed drunk on the Michael Aspel show backed up by some of the heaviest riffs youve ever heard.
Dethscalator have played on bills with the likes of Swans, Pissed Jeans, Acid Mothers Temple, Fucked Up, Part Chimp, Whitehouse, Qui and Zu in the UK and in Europe. Festival appearances include the ZXZW festival in the Netherlands, Hokaben festival, and Supersonic festival in 2010.
In 2009 Dethscalator's debut release, a split LP with fellow UK noise-band Hey Colossus, was released on the acclaimed UK based Riot Season imprint. The band are currently putting the finishing touches to a new album to be released sometime late 2011/early 2012....

IRON FIST OF THE SUN (Cold Spring)
Hailing originally from Druids Heath in Birmingham. Iron Fist of the Sun is the current sonic project of extreme noise protagonist Lee Howard. Live power electronics, experimental sonic terrorism and Black Metal are all encompassed in an unforgiving soundtrack to your most brutal nightmares just dont dare call it Art Noise.
Personal obsessions skewed by drug use, codes of behaviour observed by a misanthropic mind. Bitter and cold. Nihilistic and scornful. Elitist and Pure. Birmingham Nihilism!

SKAT INJECTOR (Hirntrust Grind Media/Legs Akimbo)
Skat Injector, have been floating around in the scum of the UK underground for a good number of years now. Occupying some strange space between grindcore, speedcore and noise, the act was founded by the misanthropic masked transvestite Zara Skumshot with the rest of the band made up by Flange Magnus and Penny Dreadful. Their brand of digital grindcore found its way onto a split release with US grind mentalists Total Fucking Destruction formed by Brutal Truths sticksman Rich Hoak as well as rave reviews from the likes of Terrorizer magazine. Brutal.
