Fri Oct 7th - C86 Special and Exhibition at HDIF in Brixton
It's finally here - the second C86 Special at HDIF in Brixton! This Friday, we'll be playing songs from the C86 era only, so expect lots and lots and lots of jangly indiepop. With a bit of noisy indiepop thrown in for good measure. The playlist from May's C86 - which featured the likes of The Field Mice, Talulah Gosh, Razorcuts, The Flatmates, The Pooh Sticks, The Pastels, Another Sunny Day, The Shop Assistants and The Sea Urchins, to name just a few - is here http://www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk/c86special.html - and photos of the night are here - http://www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk/may62011a.html - We'll be doing our best to make sure the playlist is significantly different for this second C86 Special, although we will play some of the hits that were aired in May, if requested. And as with the first C86 Special, most of the songs will be played from original vinyl. We played about 85% of the songs from vinyl last time, and I've had five months of scouring ebay since then, so that percentage will be even higher this time.
As well as the music, the C86 Special will also feature a C86 exhibition. I've spent the last few weeks tracking down gig posters and flyers from the C86 era, and the walls of the Canterbury Arms will be plastered with posters from back in the day, and the tables will be laden with C86 era flyers. The idea is that it actually becomes 1986 once you're inside the venue, so you'll be able to look at the posters, as you would regular gig posters, and pick up the flyers, examine them, spill beer on them, and do whatever else feels appropriate. So it's a kind of hands on, interactive exhibition, if you like. The likes of Amelia Fletcher, Harvey Williams, Huw Williams, Phil King, Phil Wilson, Rocker, Jim Shepherd and Rob Sekula have all donated copies of posters and flyers from their personal archives, and it's looking pretty amazing. I'm going to have a lot of fun on Friday setting everything up around the venue.
