Fri Aug 5th - Wave Pictures DJ at HDIF in Brixton
Five long weeks since the last HDIF in Brixton, we're back back back this Friday with the wonderful Wave Pictures as our guest DJs. When David, Franic and Jonny DJ-ed at the Canterbury Arms last year they played a brilliant, floor-filling set of rock'n'roll, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Sun records and the like, and really got the club hopping, so we should be in for a treat this Friday. Plus I'll be playing my highlights of last weekend's Indietracks festival - Suburban Kids, Hidden Cameras, watching everyone go crazy to "Black Cab" by Jens Lekman in the campsite disco, loads more! - along with the usual mix of indie pop, northern soul, girl groups and so on. Come out for a dance!.
Indie song of the week: "Darren" by Allo Darlin'. The finest indie pop group on the planet right now return with a super danceable, super upbeat classic. I played this at HDIF at The Phoenix last month and it went down a storm, with everyone quickly picking up the words and singing along. You can listen to the song here - http://allodarlin.bandcamp.com/album/darren
Soul song of the week: "Do It" by Pat Powdrill. A few weeks ago I spent a scary amount of cash on a seven inch single version of "Do It" by Pat Powdrill. £122 - eeeeek! I wrote a piece for The Guardian about it here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jul/28/collecting-7in-records-ebay - This Friday will be the first time I've played the single over a big sound system, so I'm very excited.
Hope to see you on Friday!
