NOVEMBER ARTIST DETAILS:
SLEEPINGDOG (BE)
info:
Once upon a time in the days of the Belgian Franc, Chantal Acda made the acquaintance Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, and the two became fast friends through a mutual love of disco bowling, and 1970's Danish scary movies. They first collaborated with vocals together on the infamous last track, 'The Struggle' on Mr. Wiltzie's 2004 'The Dead Texan' (kranky)
Now, over the course of 10 years, this strange friendship has slowly developed into a musical collaboration which at this point is a rarity for Mr. Wiltzie, because of his notorious slow burning output for his deservedly or unlawfully, but undeniably legendary Stars of the Lid.
For their new release, 'With Our Heads in the Clouds and Our Hearts in the Fields', these two have somehow gone back in time to capture the sound of glacial moving, dark cough syrup pop music. Mr. Wiltzie has manipulated his trademark Stars of the Lid sound of haunting ambience, deconstructing, and funneling it through the beautiful voice, and song compositions of Chantal Acda. Together, Sleepingdog have gently abducted these gaseous tones, and choruses of pacific tree frogs into some beautifully crafted melancholic orchestration that reminds us all that we exist in a world of strangers, drifting only two feet apart.
'With Our Heads in the Clouds and Our Hearts in the Fields' is Sleepingdog's third album after 'Naked in a Clean Bed' (Zeal - 2006) and the critically acclaimed 'Polar Life' (Gizeh/Zeal - 2008).
CONQUERING ANIMAL SOUND (UK)
info:
Conquering Animal Sound is made up of Anneke Kampman and James Scott, residents of Glasgow, UK. A musical project in it’s infancy but one that is filled with much promise and potential. Their live show is something of awe?inspiring greatness, creating loops, beats and samples out of anything and everything with Anneke’s sumptuous vocal’s carrying the sounds to what seems like a new world.
Their debut album 'Kammerspiel' is essentially pop music but in the way the likes of Fever Ray or Bjork portray pop music. Where Conquering Animal Sound differ is in their love for tape hiss and childrens toys. There is no doubt, with this record they are in a world of their own.
FAREWELL POETRY (FR)
info:
FareWell Poetry is a collective of Parisian musicians and an Anglo-saxon poet and filmmaker.
From indie to modern classical to drone and shoegaze, spoken word and experimental film, FareWell Poetry represents the pooled influences of its core members and passionate collaborators. The band's richly arranged songs seek out subtle and luminous climaxes, the hypnotically simple melodies falling away like scaffolding to reveal a complex structure narrated by a haunted voice drumming out a dark poetry, echoes from a deep well.
Performing in festivals, movie theaters, concert halls, churches and collaborating with a wide range of guests such as Bérangère Maximin, Gaspar Claus, David Moore, David Fenech, this ambitious project combines incandescent and powerful drama, orchestrated minimalism, experimental film, dark sensuality and luminous poetry.
Somewhere between a sleep-starved Man Ray, the visual performances of Throbbing Gristle or the Velvet Underground, FareWell Poetry exudes a creativity inspired by a state of trance and seeks new boundaries to push back, new doors to open.
