Sat June 18th - The Sonics album special at HDIF at The Phoenix
We've been wanting to do an album special based around The Sonics' spectacular debut for quite some time now, and when we heard that the band were going to be playing the Royal Festival Hall on the same night as a Phoenix HDIF, we knew the time had finally come. This Saturday, we'll be playing every track from "Here Are The Sonics", throughout the course of the night - most of them after midnight, so you'll have plenty of time to make it from the RFH to The Phoenix if you're coming after the show. And what a line-up of classics that is. "The Witch"! "Boss Hoss"! "Psycho"! "Have Love Will Travel"! "Do You Love Me?"! "Strychnine"! It's going to be a wild, wild night!
Our guest DJ for the night is Simon Balthazar from Fanfarlo. He'll be on from 10.30pm-midnight.
Indie song of the week: "Outdoor Miner" by Wire. A total classic from the band supporting The Sonics on Saturday night.
Soul song of the week: "My Sugar Baby" by Connie Clarke. I recently got this northern classic on seven inch, so I'm looking forward to playing it out on Saturday.
In preparation for Saturday night, we've put together a podcast called Songs The Sonics Taught Us, containing the eight songs covered on "Here Are The Sonics" and the four Sonics originals. That's all for now. Hope to see you on Saturday night!
