SJ ESAU (anticon) + CIRCUIT BREAKER - LONDON, MONDAY 2ND MAY
SJ ESAU
http://www.anticon.com/index.php?section=artist&target=SJ+Esau&js=yes
SJ Esau employs experimental techniques, lyrical gymnastics and rhythmic prestidigitation to create multi-layered, manic psych-pop compositions. Combining a stunning visual art show with a bizarre blend of sound, rhythm, loops and instruments, SJ Esau is an incredible live performer.
A veteran of the ultra-cool Bristol scene, Esau has played around the ...world, including Barcelona’s Primavera festival and Brighton's Great Escape. Esau's last two albums were released on legendary label, Anticon Records. Winner of Venue Magazine's Top Banana award, he is playing a handful of shows in preparation for his next full length released later this year.
As a solo-performer, SJ Esau makes the technical challenge of sounding like an entire band, or even an entire orchestra look easy, whilst creating an immersive, engrossing sound, one that is haunting and amazing.
"Playing a good half dozen instruments through a series of loops and delays, newer songs demonstrate an increasingly complex sonic direction, almost choral in arrangement at times, often crescendoing in massive, sustained noise wig outs." - The Fly
CIRCUIT BREAKER
http://circuitbreakerband.blogspot.com/
Circuit Breaker, using invented instruments and broken electronics, force together their dissatisfaction with written compositions and improvised music to create spontaneous noise driven songs loosely constructed on site before collapsing into the depths of dark drones. This method aims for spontaneity, discovery and error to occur within each performance.
SLUSHY GUTS
http://www.myspace.com/slushyguts
'Noise guru/illustrator Stephen Vs Cosmos has stripped back the viscera and given something completely of himself with Slushy Guts. Recordings so intimate you can here every wisp slip from his lips, these are spidery, spectral songs illustrated with surreal moments from a life well lived. The virtuoso guitar playing recalls a more spacial John Fahey or Jim O'Rourke, while the glacial darkness has moments of US heroes The For Carnation. Lovingly hand-made and illustrated, these are touching little gems in CDr form.' ROUGH TRADE.
AN INFINITY ROOM
http://www.aninfinityroom.com/
An Infinity Room (A.I.R) inhabits a beautiful, hazy world of harmonies driven by simple arithmetic patterns. A.I.R features multiple synthesizers played by sound artist and composer Julian Day with occasional special guests. Richly resonant sound fields are built from constantly shifting drones, picking up where La Monte Young, Phil Niblock and Stars Of The Lid trail off. Having played throughout his native Australia, Day is now shifting his attention to the UK and Europe with a series of dates over coming months.
