Cruising out of San Francisco on an autobahn of their own,Moon Duo are a heavy blast of fuzzed out psych, kosmische keyboards and motorik beats. Formed in 2009 by Wooden Shjips guitarist/vocalist Erik ‘Ripley’ Johnson and Sanae Yamada, the duo, initially inspired by John Coltrane and Rashied Ali’s liberated sax and drums masterpiece Interstellar Space, also doff their caps to such sainted freaks as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Suicide, Moolah, Spacemen 3 and Cluster. It’s all in there: hazy organ drones, the arthritic beats of ancient drum machines and zoned vocals.
