RM237..Hype Williams + King Midas Sound + Locust + Black Dice. Upcoming in Leeds
THURSDAY 24TH MARCH 2011...
HYPE WILLIAMS (Hippos In Tanks/Berlin) + HOOKWORMS + BEARDS
"The missing link between Aphex Twin & Ariel Pink" (The Guardian)
One of the top albums of the year in Wire magazine and playing Sonar and Field Day 2011. The Hype starts here... a totally unique, alien, addictive sound that ransacks the musical filing cabinet: disjointed psych-pop rattles around the channels, smooth-edge soul is refracted into disorientating dream tracks, murked instrumentals stumble through your psyche, disembodied samples of cult rapper Drake float around and into other, less familiar voices ... recorded exclusively in “magic hours†this is music that requires you to lift its shroud and climb inside. The spectrum of approving listeners to date is full – BBC Radio 1’s Benji B has premiered tracks, and The Wire has already devoted a page to trying to unpick the myth via a glowing review of their debut album.

FRIDAY 15TH APRIL
RETOX (San Diego/Three One G) + CHICKENHAWK + HUMANFLY
Justin Pearson & Gabe Serbian from THE LOCUST's new band. Where it’s simply music, and not a revolution, it is a revolutionary tool. More importantly, music is an effective form of communication and a means of emotional expression. A stern “fuck you” to the powers that be is an obvious reaction to modern times. Retox is that reaction to stagnant and boring cultures, as well as the countercultures that have slipped into a sea of pointlessness. The band is a reaction to the world that the members and their comrades live in: lives littered with frustration; lives soaked in violence. Featuring members of acts such as The Locust, Head Wound City, Holy Molar, All Leather, Some Girls, and The Festival of Dead Deer. With violent music, as with Retox, there is no choice but to retoxify.
