Firstly, thanks very much if you made it along to Pin Ups Pirates - we really enjoyed ourselves and we hope you did to. A great night and the pictures can be seen in the gallery at http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk .
So, Ladies Night 4! We know what you're thinking - surely once you get to Number 4 you should stop putting a number on an event. And yes, we did consider calling this one Pin Ups Ladies Night: The Revenge; or Pin Ups Ladies Night: Reloaded; or some other dodgy title, like movie franchises use when the number gets too high. And if we do one next year we promise we''ll just call it Pin Ups Ladies Night. But - as the 4th event in a series that has attracted well over 1,000 people since 2008 - we think this one deserves its' rightful number!
We are delighted to announce that our headline live act is Hannah Peel. Irish-born, Yorkshire-raised, and Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts-trained, Hannah has just released her debut album "The Broken Wave" and has been earning rave reviews. The BBC says "Hannah Peel has had an unconventional history leading to this richly rewarding debut album"; the NME says" "to pair such intimate melancholy with such ambition like this is no mean feat" (8/10), Q says: "Inventively arranged, sweet without being cloying, there's just the right hint of weirdness and mystery lurking beneath the fragile folk pop surface." (****), Drowned In Sound says: "Peel’s work comes more from Joanna Newsom’s end of the scale than Laura Marling’s, carrying with it more than a hint of the otherworldly...there is little doubt here, Broken Wave is a hugely impressive piece of work, which showcases Peel’s adroitness with a melody quite beautifully" (8/10) - there are about ten more reviews in this raving vein. Check her out for yourself - http://www.myspace.com/hanpeel
Hannah will be supported by Any Color Black ( http://www.anycolorblack.com ), aka Louise and Andy, whose ‘house-rock’ sound has developed from a chance meeting in Buchanan Street at 4am into a combination of electro bass and frenetic guitars that has seen them play Rock Ness, get nominated on pretty much every "ones to watch" in 2011 list going, and get more popular with each passing month. And opening the evening will be Boycotts ( http://www.myspace.com/startaboycott ), the crunchy (Dig Me Out-era) Sleater Kinney-esque band fronted by the irrepressible Stina Twee.
Before, between and after the live music we have a spectacular array of Guest DJs. Adele Bethel needs little introduction, the founder of one of Glasgow's best bands of the last decade, Sons and Daughters. Tracyanne Campbell and Carey Lander belong to one of Glasgow's other best bands of recent memory, Camera Obscura. Susan, Clare & co run one of the Flying Duck's most popular club nights Common People, while Lucy runs another blockbuster club night Lock Up Your Daughters. In addition, Lynsay and Louise from Any Color Black will also be on the decks, and of course the Pin Ups Chaps will be treating you to some choice selections too!
There will also be the Vintage Village curated by the fabulous ladies from Made in the Shade (who will also be DJing before and between the bands!), with stalls run by We Are the Robots, Something Different and many more, a lady photographer to capture all the action, and generally all the Pin Ups hilarity and extra surprises which you've come to expect (our Hunky Secret Treat this year was going to be Darwin Deez, but he decided he didn't want to travel straight through to Glasgow following his Edinburgh gig. Have we arranged a replacement? You'll have to come along if you want to find out).
Entry will be £5 for ladies and £6 for gents on the night, or £5 in advance for everybody from Tickets Scotland or the store at http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk .
