Buzzin' Fly Spring Party, March 5th, Cable London
CHICAGO'S TEVO HOWARD AND INNERVISIONS' MARCUS WORGULL PLUS FULL PUPP'S PRINS THOMAS AND DISCO BLOODBATH JOIN BEN WATT'S BUZZIN' FLY AT CABLE ON SATURDAY MARCH 5
Over 1,000 people attended the last party for Ben Watt's esteemed Buzzin' Fly label at Cable back in December underlining the continued appetite for the imprint's current season of bigger parties in the capital. The latest event - the Buzzin' Fly Spring Party - on Saturday March 5 offers up another impeccable line-up spread across two rooms.
In the main room head honcho Ben Watt will drop another keynote set with support from longtime sideman, Chris Woodward, and they are joined first by Chicago producer-DJ du jour, Tevo Howard. Anyone with an ear for authentic, raw-but-deep US house music can't fail to have noticed the splash Tevo has made in recent months with his flatt-matt warm analogue-sounding releases on Rush Hour and his own Beautiful Granville label. Last summer Tracey Thorn added a song and a vocal to his instrumental breakthrough track 'Without Me'. Watt then asked him to write something specifically for the Buzzin' Fly itself. The result is the recently released (and ecstatically received) 'The Age Of Compassion' (DJ Mag 9.5/10). A true underground pioneer, Tevo will play both an early live set and a later DJ set.
The main room also plays host to Cologne's Marcus Worgull. His recent remix (with Dixon) of Tevo Howard and Tracey Thorn's 'Without Me' (see above) is the natural link to tonight's party, but Marcus' heritage as a heavy deep house DJ par exellence stretches back to his early days as a resident DJ in his home city of Cologne before joining Dixon's esteemed Innervisions imprint with his debut cut 'Dragon Loop' (2005) and then 'Spellbound' (2007). Since then he has remixed for top projects such as The Juan MacLean and DFA, Permanent Vacation and Running Back and remains a cornerstone DJ at vital low-down clubs such as Robert Johnson and Plastic People.
Meanwhile, in the bar, Buzzin' Fly invites back the Dalston disco kings, Disco Bloodbath to host another of their inimitable throw-downs, and their guest for the night will be the Norwegian balearic legend, Prins Thomas. After a background in hip-hop and rock, Thomas famously joined forces with Hans-Peter Lindstrom in 2003 to run their own labels Feedelity, Full Pupp and Internasjonal. The output has been a sonic masterclass in disco, psychedelia and rock. Unpredictable and varied, he never fails to deliver. Expect a serious block party.
Buzz buzz.
