Avast ye Jim lads and buxom wenches, and come ye t' an evening of Pin Ups Pirates! Why are we having a Pirates night? Just because we aaarrrghhh....
On the last Friday of January the good ship Flying Duck will be hijacked for one night only by an unruly bunch of buccaneers! Landlubbers are invited to hoist themselves up Jacobs Ladder and aboard the ship as it sets sail for the choppy waters of a classic evening of Pin Ups hilarity. Manning the poop decks will be Captain Paul Thomson, the tattoo'd picaroon of Franz Ferdinand. Paul will be joined by a motley crew of Pin Ups DJs, who will be swilling rum and playing a heady mix of shanties to keep you dancing all night long!
We'll be flying the Jolly Roger above the Flying Duck from 9pm and it'll be 'all hands ahoy' to catch a fine booty of live bands in the Hold. Ace City Racers ( http://www.myspace.com/acecityracers ) are a band of ne'er do well Glasgow scallywags, already produced and endorsed by none other than the legendary Smiths and Blur producer (and former Pin Up Nights Guest DJ) Stephen Street! Also appearing on the hearty bill are the cutlass swinging men-o-war The Plimptons ( http://www.myspace.com/thepilmptonsuk). These be Pin Ups faves for years and will put on a show that'll have ye swingin' from the crows nest! Our headlining act aboard the good ship for t' evening will be none other than Jacob Yates and the Pearly Gate Lock Pickers ( http://www.myspace.com/jacobyatesandthepearlygatelockpickers)! Jacob Lovatt be one of the most engaging frontmen ye will ever see (imagine thar offspring of Joe Strummer and Tom Waits), so be sure to watch thee old salt in action and ye won't be disappointed!
Shiver me timbers, as if this wasn't exciting enough, there be much more Pirate related hilarity packed between the hulls! Thar will be a delicious RUM COCKTAIL on promo for the night, and Captain Barney(cle) of The Flying Duck be mixing up the heady concoction as we speak (Please Drink Responsibly)! Make sure ye visit the PIRATE MARKET which will feature many delights including (temporary) tattoos! Confront sharks, octopuses and other DENIZENS OF THE DEEP in The Galley! And every landlubber climbing aboard will be given a TREASURE MAP and challenged with finding HIDDEN TREASURE!
To get yourself aboard the ship ye can buy a ticket in advance for only 5 doubloons from the Pin Ups website store ( http://www.threadsofsound.com/pinupnights/?file=pinupnights) or Tickets Scotland. Thar will be a entrance price of 6 doubloons on the night and anyone asking for thee student discount will be forced to walk the plank! It be 6 doubloons for everyone, but still a bargain I hear ye cry!
It be up to ye whether ye join the crew in Pirate Attire or in yer civvies. The PIn Ups Chaps will be bedecked in Pirate Finery, and thar be PRIZES n PIECES O' EIGHT on t' night for the BEST PIRATES, so if ye fancy dressin' up ye could be pillaging a fine array of booty!
So batten down the hatches ye scurvy dogs, and scuttle ye down t' The Flying Duck on Friday 28th January and the Pin Ups Pirates crew will be cock a hoop to help ye aboard! If ye are three sheets to the wind by 3am then don't worry, thee won't be hanged from the yardarm, it all be good clean fun.
Yo Ho Ho
