Our guest DJ this month is David Christian of Comet Gain. The last time David DJ-ed at HDIF - back in 2009, date fans - he left behind three records, by The Left Banke, Neil Young and The June Brides. I am supposed to give them back to him on Saturday. So there's three things you might hear him play on Saturday. I assume there'll be other stuff too. He'll be on from 10.30pm-midnight, and I'll write a little something about him on the blackboard at the bottom of the stairs in our EXCITING NEW REGULAR FEATURE at HDIF at the Phoenix. Oh yes. Indie track of the week: "The Fists In The Pocket" by Comet Gain. It's not usually protocol to have the indie track of the week written by the guest DJ, but I went to see Comet Gain at the Lexington last week and this was one of the runaway highlight smashes of a wonderful and scrappy and emotional and raw and brilliant evening. So I'm going to play it again, if I can find my copy of "City Fallen Leaves" (much overlooked I reckon, check it out, one of their best albums). Soul track of the week: "Everyday Of The Week" by The Students. A request for last Saturday's Great Big Kiss and such a great song that I'm going to play it at HDIF on Saturday too. Taken from "Doo Wop's Golden Age (1957-1959)", this deeply strange but hugely infectious song was used in the Sopranos so I'm told, but I like it because it sounds a bit like a young Michael Jackson fronting The Wave Pictures. No really. It does.
