Yes folks, Pin Up Nights is proud to announce we'll be taking over the Flying Duck once again this year for the best Hogmanay Party in town!
We've been looking forward to this one for months. The last two Pin Ups Hogmanay Balls were amazing fun and we'll be going all out to make sure this one is no different! Can we beat the drama of 2008/9 when the Duck staff were amazed by their first ever sell-out crowd (http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=35 ) or 2009/10 when people were getting so excited one chap even proposed to his lucky ladyfriend ( http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=52 )? Come and find out!
The PIN UPS DJs will be with you all night in the Main Room, and our splendid headline live act are the dynamic duo OVER THE WALL (http://www.myspace.com/overthewall ), a band who first played at Pin Ups back in 2006 and have gone from strength to strength ever since, including a headline performance at Pin Ups last January in front of mad Florence (and the Machine). Over the Wall are simply born to entertain and are ready to lift the lid off the Duck on the 31st. If you're not aware of Ben and Gav yet, check out the amazing "Thurso" -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_meDV_-RnM (or click on the link in the comments). We are scouting for a second band of sufficient calibre to avoid being blown off the stage by Over the Wall, and hope to confirm them any day now. We are also in negotiations with a certain Tall Dark Handsome Stranger and after two foiled bids to get him involved in our Hogmanay Balls we are pretty confident that it might be third time lucky! We're hoping to be in the position by Monday to announce his presence as DJ and star singer at the bells. Fingers crossed!
This year The Kitchen is being looked after by one of the Flying Duck's most popular nights COMMON PEOPLE ( http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=215124312561 ), who will get you dancing with their inimitable mix of 90s classics and also their famous 90s Bingo. What Common People do really shouldn't work, but we guarantee you - it does. They're similar to Pin Ups in that they have a good laugh and hang together a quite wild mix of music. The big difference is that it's all plucked from the 90s! How do they do it? Come and find out!
Hogmanay is enough of a theme in itself, but to add to the festive feel we are also spending a few quid on decking out the Flying Duck in saltires and tartan and shortbread and so forth. As we have said in previous years, "Hogmanay Ball" doesn't mean you have to get all dressed up, but if you want to get all suave, or smother yourself in tartan, then by all means be our guest.
Of course, proper party promoters would tell you that this is going to sell out and you should immediately raffle your granny to buy at least 50 tickets each. As you probably know by now we don't indulge in such crude scare tactics at Pin Up Nights. Indeed, there's nothing that screams "THIS IS GOING TO BE DEID!" more than somebody facebooking/emailing you every day saying "TICKETS GOING FAST, NO REALLY THEY ARE". So we will just give you the facts and let you make your own mind up. The facts are that our Hogmanay Balls 1 and 2 were complete sell-outs, our 7th birthday last month had a queue of folk waiting outside in a bona fide blizzard, and Pin Up Frights (October) and Geek Night (September) were also sold oot! Now, I'm no Miss Marple, but this all suggests only one outcome... Advance tickets priced for the 3rd year running at a bargain basement £10 are available NOW from the store athttp://www.pinup-nights.co.uk/ or from Tickets Scotland (instore and online at http://www.tickets-scotland.com/booking.html?booking_method=viewevent&booking_event_id=200cf752-f65c-11df-9168-12313b0a8e9c). Go get 'em!
Lastly we'd just like to say thanks for supporting Pin Ups throughout 2010 and encouraging us to put together some crazy parties. If you keep turning up we'll keep throwing them.
The Pin Ups Chaps x
ps a short clip of you all singing in perfect unsion to Rod Jones from Idlewild's rendition of "auld land syne" at the bells in 2009/10 can be seen/heard here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UtdGH9Lo6c
pps we are also pleased to announce PIN UPS PIRATES will take place on Friday 28th January. Yes, it's another Pin Ups themed spectacular! Expect skulls, ropes, rum, jolly rogers, (temporary) tattoo artists, admirals, err buxom wenches, loads more nonsense and most definitely a treasure map for everybody and some hidden bullion to find! Our live bands will be Jacob Yates and the Pearly Gate Lock Pickers, The Plimptons and Ace City Racers, and our very special Guest DJ "Scrubbing the Decks" will be that stylish sporter of stripey tops and spectacular tattoos Paul Thomson, of Glasgow's very own Franz Ferdinand! Shiver me Timbers!
