RIZLA RE-CRAFTED - RE-CRAFTING THE MYSTERY JETS
Having spent the Summer partying at some of the UK’s best music festivals and live events, Rizla is giving bedroom producers the excuse to spend their Winter evenings re-crafting an exclusive track by the Mystery Jets.
This brand new nationwide remix contest gives bedroom studio wizards the chance to remix the new single by top British band the Mystery Jets, offering a unique platform for their music to be heard by a massive audience of peers and influencers across the music world.
Rizla have launched a brand new website at www.rizlarecrafted.co.uk where component parts of the Mystery Jets track can be exclusively downloaded and then uploaded when re-crafted. Here they can also listen to a selection of the entries and have theirs heard by the public. A panel of judges, that will include the Mystery Jets, will listen to all the entries and pick a winner.
Having broken down and re-crafted the Mystery Jets track, the winner will see their music given unprecedented profile. Rizla will send out the track to its extensive network of label and DJ contacts across the music industry. In addition, the winner will be kitted out with a Hercules DJ Console RMX – the complete DJ controller - plus a sack of Rizla goodies.
Beyond simply making the parts available to download, Rizla is going on tour throughout November and into December, hosting a series of ‘Masterclass’ workshops and interactive sessions in Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Sheffield. Hosted and chaired by remix legend and figurehead of the UK garage scene, MJ Cole, the daytime Re-Crafted experience will focus on the ‘Art of the Remix’ and include live demonstrations, performances, industry tips and much more.
As day moves into night, Rizla will head to the cities’ best clubs for a night of cutting edge music. Spearheaded with DJ sets by MJ Cole and the Mystery Jets, an all-star lineup of DJs and live acts will create an inimitable multi-genre experience.Everyone that attends the workshops will get a free ticket to the club events too!

On How To Enter…
The competition is open now and closes for entries on Friday 10 December. Rizla have launched a brand new microsite at www.rizlarecrafted.co.uk where producers can download the parts of the track and upload their remix. There they can also listen to a selection of the entries so far and have theirs heard by the public. The panel of judges that pick the winner will include Mystery Jets, and the winner will be announced on Friday 17 December.
On Mystery Jets…
Mystery Jets have been one of the most consistently exciting bands in the UK over the last few years, and with their second album ‘Twenty One’ having been produced by one of the world’s most feted DJs, Erol Alkan, they managed to successfully straddle the divide between indie and dance music. With their third album ‘Serotonin’, which was released in July of this year, the band have reached another level, with music bible Drowned In Sound describing it as “gleaming pop majesty”. Since the release they’ve reaffirmed their indie-dance crossover credentials on a team up with dance music stars Count & Sinden, ‘After Dark’.
The chance to remix their brand new single ‘Show Me The Light’ – with its soaring vocals and 90s house bass riff – represents a unique opportunity for new talent to create something very special.
On MJ Cole…
MJ Cole was one of the pillars of the UK garage scene that ruled the clubs and the airwaves in the late 90s and early 00s, and with the recent explosion of dubstep and UK funky – which has increasingly drawn on the influence of UK garage rhythms - his relevance to club music and culture is at an all-time premium. MJ Cole’s influence has led to him becoming one of the most in-demand DJs in electronic music, and rather than rely on past successes he has continued to push the boundaries of club music with his own cutting edge productions, and DJ sets, that stay way ahead of the curve. As a remixer he has always been one of the most revered figures in electronic music and as such he represents the perfect artist to impart his skills and experience to new remix talent at the Rizla Re-crafted ‘Masterclasses’.
Hercules DJ Console RMX…
Hercules DJ Console RMX – the complete DJ controller with 4-in/4-out audio interface for advanced and professional DJs. 2X Runners up will receive Hercules DJ Console MK4 – an ultra mobile dual deck digital mixer for DJs on the go.
