Fri Sept 3rd - Orange Juice special at HDIF in Brixton
This Friday we're having an Orange Juice special at HDIF in Brixton. To celebrate the rerelease of the Orange Juice back catalogue and the return of Edwyn Collins with a magnificent new single and album, we'll be playing all of "You Can't Hide Your Love Forever" over the course of the evening. Looking at my battered vinyl copy of the album just now, the outer sleeve long gone, is quite an awe-inspiring experience for a quiet Tuesday morning. Every song is a stone-cold classic, from "Falling And Laughing" and "Wan Light" to "Felicity" and "In A Nutshell", the lyrics sparking off years of memories, of emotional shows and long lost friends, of mixtapes and club nights, of, well, falling and laughing, singing "This is what life is all about!" when of course it's really "Is this what life is all about?" Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
Just look at that tracklisting:
"Falling and Laughing"
"Untitled Melody"
"Wan Light"
"Tender Object"
"Dying Day"
"L.O.V.E. Love"
"Intuition Told Me (Part 1)"
"Upwards And Onwards"
"Satellite City"
"Three Cheers For Our Side"
"Consolation Prize"
"Felicity"
"In a Nutshell"
My god.
No idea which songs will be played when, but the first of them will be at 9.30pm and the last just before 2.30am. It's going to be quite a night.
Our guest DJs are Betty And The Werewolves. All of them. They're on from 10.30pm-midnight.
I heard your bugle playing
The sweetest music to my ears
I'm not afraid of saying
I'm close to tears
We'll run away and I'll always believe
Until my dying day, my dying day
