Shadow Orchestra are a five piece electronic indie jazz-pop band featuring harps, cellos, guitars, drums, electronics and the odd autoharp. They built a reputation for their storming live sets resulting in high profile gigs at the Big Chill Festival, support for DJ Krush and Quantic Soul Orchestra at London's Koko, as well as support slots with Daedelus, Mira Calix and DJ Vadim, amongst others. The Shadow Orchestra have also become regulars at popular London venues Cargo and the Luminaire.
2010 has seen Shadow Orchestra play Sunrise, Secret Garden, the Union Chapel and a main stage slot at Meadowlands. The band launched its EP entitled “Remaker” with a headline slot at Proud Galleries in Camden recently and a new album is scheduled for September. Expect to hear Remaker tracks performed live at Big Chill House.
Formed in 2006 by producer and cellist Chris Bangs, Remaker is the follow up to Shadow Orchestra’s eponymous debut album which received extensive radio play in the UK, including BBC Radio 1, Radio 3 and BBC Radio London. True to its name the EP showcases Bang’s sound re-developed, re-interpreted, remade, through working with a fully formed band comprising of himself on cello, Kat Arney on harp, Dave Oliver on drums, Nick Siddall on guitar and Mary Erskine on Vocals and Keys. Together they blend disparate musical elements into a blistering pop aesthetic.
The Shadow Orchestra’s super-collision of percussive harp, crazed bebop drums, glacial guitar, shamanic cello and primal electronica creates a melodic cacophony as cerebral as it is soulful, in which listeners can celebrate the common ground between 20th century classical, pre-fusion jazz, and the joyous experimentation of early dance music.
This is a gig not to be missed! See you there!
