Civil Music bring a case study in live performance and progressive bass this August bank holiday as they settle in at Shoreditch’s revered Old Blue Last for a night of spaced-out crunk, cosmic song writing ability and grimey London vibes.
All the way from Philadelphia, PA, Planet Mu’s leading intergalactic beat warrior Starkey drops in for an intimate show of pure street bass power, as he runs through material from recent album Ear Drums & Black Holes, displaying the type of finesse as a selector that’s seen him featured for Mary Anne Hobbs’ ‘Generation Bass’ special back in 2008, enamored him amongst critics and develop a truly global fan base.
Cosmic foursome Starlings provide the live action for the evening, as their mix of psychedlic balearia, anthemic synths and heartfelt lyricism (overseen by the production talent of Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve genius Richard Norris), combine to create a heartfelt euphoria that moves the body and tugs the heartstrings.
Rinse FM regulars and Butterz Records heads Ellijah & Skilliam bring the grime pressure to the evening, having developed a solid reputation through their focus on sourcing and pushing fresh new talent, helping bring the focus back to the instrumental side of grime production. These guys selections are second none, and with access to some of the most innovative beats around, you can expect to hear some next level stuff, whilst providing the crate-digging hip-hop and eclectic beats will be none other than Eglo Records head honcho Alexander Nut.
Support comes from the NME’s Jamie Hodgson - a man who’s championing of fresh new music has helped grow many new acts on the UK scene, and Reason and Romanza’s Simon Goldschlager, who’s intimate knowledge of all things electronic will no doubt see him throwing some curveballs to keep your feet moving and your brain twitching.
Overseeing the whole evening will of course be the Civil Music Dj’s, providing you with anything and everything in the way of groundbreaking new music.
