Amateurs, Crooked mountain crooked sea, Pifco + These waves - BAR ONE, Derby TONIGHT!!!
Seems Jordan doesn't like it when you post on the wrong board so here ya go with some more details about tonights show....
AMATEURS - Toby did St. Louis and Shield ‘em (and currently plays as Shoes and Socks Off) while Al and Jonny did Hikikomori and The Robot Vs. (and still play together in Crowns on the Rats). Seemed a swell idea to get together and play. We got together. Got all trashy with the Tubescreamers and Octave Clangs, bang and woof, all sounding pretty slipshod but in that nice kinda way. Hey - but most songs kinda suck though, don’t you think? All that rubbery omphaloskepsis over girls and so on. Hey - how about writing one dedicated to the 19th century Russian futurist that looked to the cosmos for solutions to immortality, foreseeing cloning, AI, and cryonics in the process? How about the American population geneticist that developed a formula for evolutionary altruism, then, after giving his money and possessions to the homeless Londoners he befriended, cut his own throat with a pair of nail scissors? Shit, when you start looking into it, there are a million fables out there … a million million fables …
Crooked Mountain, Crooked Sea - Hail from Brighton post-rock / post hardcore four piece Crooked Mountain, Crooked Sea have covered a lot of ground since they began playing shows last year recently signing with Smalltown america records their sound is ever-evolving, taking a staid genre and making it poignant, relevant and interesting again.
Complex rhythms and intelligent lyrics sung with agitated, shouted vocals lead to far flung comparisons ranging from CURSIVE for their similarly narrative songs, to the restrained rage of FUGAZI and AT THE DRIVE-IN, and in quieter moments the introspection and melody of RED HOUSE PAINTERS.

PIFCO - are a two piece featuring members from Quack,Quack and Executive legs Heavier than they might originally seem, yet rooted in the experimental / indie school, the pair keep it raw, noisy and always slightly sinister and disturbing.
If The Wedding Present had recorded an album while all the members were experiencing exceedingly bad trips, it might have sounded like this.
THESE WAVES are one of the best local bands around at the moment since their lineup change, they play edgy post hardcore with the same mathrock elements that made Meet Me in St Louis and Secondsmile special and are so worth coming down early to catch em!
