Let's Buy Happiness (Newcastle, UK) (Debut London show)
http://www.myspace.com/letsbuyhappinessuk
Let’s Buy Happiness stand apart from the typical sound normally associated with the North East, mixing delayed guitar soundscapes with compelling vocals reminiscent of Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins. This is something that's ensured a rapid rise to notoriety - they've already appeared at Glastonbury and The Great Escape, and supported bands such as The Temper Trap and Idlewild in their hometown. Their debut EP, No Hot Ashes, was released in November 2009 with a new double A-side single - 'Six Wolves' / 'Woodrings' - due out in October.
"...one of the most thrilling new bands I’ve seen in years" Sean Adams, Drowned In Sound
"The far-off hinterland of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne never sounded so wonderfully floaty and ethereal. Let’s Buy Happiness deliver escapist theories and the gorgeous vocal of Sarah Hall on some vintage indie pop that’s every bit The Sundays at their very best, with reverb guitar for texture." Glastonbury Festivals
"Clearly already on their way to greatness." Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music
Escapists
http://www.myspace.com/escapists
South London quartet Escapists take inspiration from US Indie rock bands such as Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie and The National to create what they decribe in their own words as 'a wall of sound punctuated with haunting melodies, soaring harmonies and pulsating drums'.
Yukon Blonde (Vancouver, CA) (Debut UK tour)
http://www.myspace.com/yukonblondeband
A band that borrows from the best; looking for influence in 60's rock harmonies, thick yet simple hooks, and depression-era furniture upholstery, they have been compared to Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby/Stills/Nash, America and latterly Fleet Foxes and Midlake. Yukon Blonde was formed by Innes, Scott, Jones, and Newton out of their love of nostalgic music and a need to make new sound in a screaming town. Their debut self-titled LP was released in the US and Canada in October 2009, and received rave reviews from Exclaim, Under The Radar and Billboard.
Pushing Hands
http://www.myspace.com/pushinghandssound
A newly formed London four piece, Pushing Hands reference the seminal 90s US rock of Pavement and Yo La Tengo as well as the current UK indie-pop of The Maccabees and Bombay Bicycle Club to create catchy, perfectly formed three-minute pop songs.
