friday: crash of rhinos / NASDAQ / wooderson / day for airstrikes / saturday's kids @ brudenell, LEEDS
so late.
fancy claps & an idiot in a balloon presents:
crash of rhinos - derby / leeds supergroup partying like it's still 2002. or 2003. effectively an amalgamation of those that made up the little explorer & the jesus years, with added shittalker. two bases, two guitars, two drummers (he's pretty much as good as two drummers, is our ol); think medications, colossal, retisonic. that sort of thing.
NASDAQ - best band in the country. ex members of burnst / the freezing fog / the leif ericsson. instrumental noodlings that swing between sounding like low to yes to metallica. on paper, this should not work. it really, REALLY does.
wooderson - sheffield's finest attempt at reimagining end hits-era fugazi and ...trail of dead (before they trailed off). solid as a rock.
day for airstrikes - these guys have been around FOREVER, i swear. really impressed when we played with them over the weekend, they've got an unbelievably tight sound and do the constellation / temporary residence post-rock-lift-me-up thing stupidly well.
saturday's kids - a bunch of kids from wales. have only seen them twice before, but a friend of ours (dany @ art from blind) swears by them; to such an extent that he's released their first 7", and i'm told it's a BELTER. references to drive like jehu, sonic youth and 31G recs have all been banded about so i'm pretty damn excited.
expectations = high.
this is at the BRUDENELL SOCIAL CLUB in hyde park.
FOUR ENGLISH POUNDS.
thanks.
