Damnably's favourite North London art rockers first debuted with "Labours" in 2009. They mine a smooth baritone voiced Smog-meets-Dinosaur Jr via the Go-Betweens distorto-pop sound and are set to break into your hearts this year and steal important bits.
Jugoplastika http://www.myspace.com/jugoplastika
This 4-piece are set to play their debut London show, having shared stages with Shonen Knife, The Wedding Present and Dinosaur Jr. among others in their native Madrid and recently released their album "Say Hello To The Kid", produced by John Agnello (renowned producer for The Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Son Volt, The Walkmen, and many more).
Rica Minami http://www.myspace.com/ricaminami
London based ex-Hanjiro front lady Rica's solo material is cinematically grand with pounding pianos, floaty vocals and dreamy melodies. Playing a solo acoustic set, expect to be swept away by a wave of Japanese psychedelic indie pop, strong visuals and super energy.
Monster Island http://www.myspace.com/monsterislandmusic
XFM John Kennedy/Tom Robinson favourites, Pavement-meets-The Fall three piece from Lancashire who spark up a satirical and caustic yet pretty catchy off kilter dirge and some of the best lyrics you’ll hear this year. Easily the best band to emerge from Manchester in the last 5 years and the band are ever so proud to have nothing to do with Paul Morely or the haggard sad old rockers that won't let Joy Division/Factory rest in peace.
MJ Hibbett http://www.myspace.com/mjhibbett
Having performed live on Radio One, had a Record Of The Year in Rolling Stone, an Album Of The Day on 6Music, released one of the first ever viral videos, toured up and down the UK, featured in an Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, and all the while maintaining complete independence from record labels, Hibbett is old school indie, belligerently optimistic, and will have a pint.
Rob & Sean Price from Airport Girl with El Ward on Solo Oboe and George Gargan on bass http://www.myspace.com/shamboliclofiindiepop
A very special ‘Go-Betweens’ covers set by legendary Fortuna Pop! act who began over a decade ago and have garnered significant press, radio play and fans. Rob and Sean will be joined by various special guests and there may be some Robert Forster solo songs covered too.
Former Utopia http://www.myspace.com/formeutopia
George plays Guitar and Rama drums. Rama is from East Seoul, Korea and played in Slowcore bands for years and supported Steve Malkmus. George played bass in Lazarus Clamp from 99-2003 and toured with Giant Sand, Herman Dune and at SXSW in 2001 before it became cool. He formed Former Utopia when he returned to East London in 2003 and gigged with Shonen Knife, Chris Brokaw, Julie Dorion, Thee More Shallows, Mick Turner (Dirty Three) and David Grubbs.
Russell and The Wolf Choir http://www.myspace.com/fadingstarsinautumn
Romford born love lorn poet Russell plays a sweet sounding acoustic americana pop that sounds like Kevin Devine kissing Jason Molina on the lips while humming a Karate song (dressed in Larry David Shoes). Candid, angsty, bittersweet, and ardently heartfelt.
Damnably is a London-based DIY 'not for profit' label/agency/tour booker. We began in 2006 and since then have frequently got gig of the week in Time Out, The Independent, and were even voted Club of the week in The Guardian. We have had reviews and interviews in all major music press plus airplay on XFM/ BBC Radio One and 6music from John Kennedy, Lauren Laverne, Huw Stephens, Rob Da bank, Marc Rily, Gideon Coe, Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson.
We Love music, great gigs and BBQ's!
