Hello all, with all the hecticness of the opening week and the huge bank holiday weekend we just had.. ( thanks all who came down and make the opening of the Hold such a memorable occasion..).. The upcoming Becks weekend of activity has been overshadowed somewhat... So ever if you over did it over the Bank Holiday there is a great array of nice things on for free thanks to the nice people at Becks...
Thursday night sees Ninja Tune dude Dj Cheeba rock out in the main bar with a very funny AV show, much like the one you have seen DJ Yoda do but with a lot more special effects and video feeds and gadgets.. Also rocking up with be the Squeaky Hill Art and Comedy Tour which are one of the kind of acts you could expect to see at Bestival or Parklife Manchester providing entertainment and general nonsense.. This motley crue will be bringing along a mobile charity shop, various musical statue games involving megaphone beatboxing, the Red Sparrow display team and a barbershop quartet. This lot better be good or we want our corporate cash back. (We are told they are brilliant!)
Friday night, our good friends Horse Meat Disco are in town with our even better pals from across the Pennines the PBR Street team. Probably THE best combination of disco stalwharts in the country. NO COMPETITION. Also this is free. Yes nothing. Last week with Gilles Peterson was a total lock out as the Hold can only take 120 people at a time.. So get down to the bar early as its first come first served.
Saturday we bring you The Invisibles. Mercury Music nominees and quite simply one of the best live bands on the planet right now. With support from mainstream bothering outfit Chapel Club its a tasty little lineup of freeness.
Sunday brings to an end the Becks sponsored foray of Art, Music and Comedy. First up The Shipping Forecast brings a lovely mix of our favourite little bands.. New Young Pony Club outsurf the new rave hyperbole and are still standing unlike most of their counterparts.. Adding to this evening of art, music and comedy. The Cabinet of Living Cinema.. The unholy bastardisation music, video art, story telling, puppetry (er), dance and song.. All this wackiness will backed up with Holtons Opulent Oog. The new album is a beautifully realised release filled with bright tunes, dark thoughts, happy days and long night. Check it out if you are around..
Lots of Love. The Ship x
