We're very excited to welcome Thomas Hein of These New Puritans ( http://www.thesenewpuritans.com ) as May's headline Guest DJ. These New Puritans new album "Hidden" is, in our opinion, an absolute belter. Critics in both the UK and the US are referring to it as an album of the year contender.
"You'll be listening to in a decade, enjoying the fact that you can never quite decipher its codes, and probably being amazed at how many more commercially successful records it has inspired."
Observer Music Monthly.
"It’s genuinely surprising, beautifully wrought and announces TNP as one of the most powerful artistic forces in Britain today."
NME.
"Hidden is a strikingly inventive and original rock record. The album freshly synthesizes older ideas (post-rock textures, no-wave skronk, Steve Reich-influenced phasing) and current trends (dubstep's delay, chart pop's stentorian synth lines, global beats)."
Pitchfork.
Supporting Tom on the decks will be Rosie Cunningham (of Horrors-esque dark garage pop band Ipso Facto), Frazer from Vendor Defender, under his remixer name HaHaHa ( http://www.myspace.com/hahahamusic1 ), and the gents from Halleluwah Hits, Glasgow's new record shop and label ( http://www.halleluwahhits.com ).
Our headline live band Gold Future Joy Machine are from London and are a very interesting proposition. According to http://illegaltendermagazine.blogspot.com ; "They sound like J-Dilla being torn apart by the entire past and present roster of the sub-pop label. Hosting their own invite only warehouse parties for friends and followers, they have basically refused to play ball with anyone outside of their inner circle. They now have the entire music industry at their mercy." Intrigued? Have a listen - http://www.myspace.com/goldfuturejoymachine .
Future Joy Machine will be supported by Pin Ups favourite Glasgow band, the absolutely fantastic Nevada Base ( http://www.myspace.com/nevadabase ), the enigmatic Glasgow act Un Cadavre ( http://www.myspace.com/ryevskiredoute ) and long-term pals of Pin Ups Miss the Occupier ( http://www.myspace.com/misstheoccupier ).
Overseeing the proceedings will be the Pin Ups DJs playing indie, punk, soul, electropop, electronica, techno and anything else we deem necessary to keep the night flowing together nicely. I think we're long past categorising the music we play at Pin Ups - if you love music just get yourself along as it's going to be one hell of a night!
As there's loads going on entry will be £7 on the night, but advance fiver tickets are available from either Tickets Scotland or the store at http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk .
Lastly, in tribute to These New Puritans' love of codes and cryptography, there's a dramatic secret message embedded in the poster. See if you can spot it!!
Thanks for reading, The Pin Ups chaps.x
