Sat April 17th - John Moore DJs at HDIF's eighth birthday party!
Incredibly, HDIF will be EIGHT YEARS OLD this month. Eight years! Come and help us celebrate, in the company of guest DJ John Moore (Black Box Recorder/Jesus And Mary Chain), who'll be making his first appearance at the club.
This is also our annual T-Shirt Weather special. As in previous years, if your personal sartorial style stretches to the t-shirt, please come along wearing your favourite band or music-related t-shirt. Here's a reminder of how it works:
Now I understand that many of you are stylish folk who prefer a sharp shirt or a gorgeous vintage dress to a humble t-shirt, and if that's you then the following doesn't apply. But if your style does extend to t-shirts, then could you please come along wearing a band or music-related t-shirt. Maybe you've got an old Field Mice or Orange Juice t-shirt from back in the day. Or you have a cool Camera Obscura or The School t-shirt (or a Beach Boys or Shangri-Las t-shirt, for that matter). Whatever nifty item of bandwear lurks at the back of your wardrobe, now's the time to dig it out and show it off to the world.
Indie song of the week: "Girls With Guns" by Tender Trap. Excellent new download single from Amelia and co, a song to rank alongside "Atta Girl". Toting an imaginary semi-automatic, Amelia declares: "We are watching out/For all the girls around this town/And you will be found out/If you try to bring one of those girls down". So don't mess, y'hear?
Soul song of the week: "(There's Gonna Be A) Showdown" by Archie Bell And The Drells. Later reinvented by the New York Dolls, this soul dancer is lithe and infectious. Plus its dancing-as-gunfight metaphor fits in perfectly with "Girls With Guns" - "I've got ten notches on my shoes/When it comes to dancin I just can't lose/They call me the top cat in this man's town/So I want you to meet me before the sun goes down."
Hope to see you on Saturday
