Thurs Apr 1st - Allo Darlin' DJ at Brixton HDIF
Brace yourself, friends, for that time of year is upon us yet again. Ready your drinking trousers, prime your dancing shoes, dust off your falling over top and your shouting after midnight hat. Fantastic Thursday - the Drunkest Night Of The Year ™ - is now a mere four days away. What's that you say? You've never head of Fantastic Thursday before? Well, it's simple. The last day of this working week is Good Friday. And the day before that is Fantastic Thursday. And we call it that because it marks the start of FOUR ENTIRE DAYS OFF WORK, and therefore it's your moral and civic duty to go out and, quite literally, drink yourself into next week. Got any plans for Good Friday? Cancel them. You won't be getting up until Saturday. Oh, you may be scoffing at the notion now, from the relatively safe distance that Monday affords. But wait until Thursday, when the realisation that you have four whole days off hits, along with A Sudden Thirst. At which point, of course, we'll be ready for you...
So yes. All of which is a rather unnecessarily lengthy way of saying that we're having Brixton HDIF on Thursday this month, rather than Friday. We had a Fantastic Thursday HDIF at the Canterbury Arms a couple of years ago and it was quite the night. And we're sure that this Thursday will be no different. Our guest DJs are Elizabeth and Bill from Allo Darlin', fresh from wowing SXSW and becoming a father respectively. They've never DJ-ed on a Fantastic Thursday before, but I'm sure they'll get the hang of it soon enough. They're Australians, after all.
Indie song of the week: "Can't Understand" by The School. My favourite track off the long-awaited (and excellent) debut album by The School.
Fifties song of the week: "Fujiyama Mama" by Wanda Jackson. I'm on a bit of a Wanda Jackson kick at the moment, so expect this classic from the First Lady Of Rock'N'Roll.
See you on Thursday!
