Its the last Friday of the month...its the Flying Duck...which means...its PIN UP NIGHTS!! Yes folks, after the madcap excitement of Februarys Ladies Night its almost time again for another exciting installment of Pin Ups!
First of all we'd all like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who came along to Ladies Night 3 last month. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Nights like that take such a huge amount of planning its so great to see the place packed and everyone enjoying the action. Hopefully the ladies down the front of the DJ booth who swooned at the unveiling of hunky secret treat Justin Currie around 1.30am have regained their composure. We were actually contacted by government officials beforehand pleading with us to reveal his identity up front in case there was Global Swooning and carnage on a worldwide scale! Seriously though, we really hope you enjoyed it - our presumptuously-named review of the action "All because the ladies love Pin Up Nights" can be found here - http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk/fanz.php?ide=55 - there's words, pictures and VIDEO - welcome to 2010!
This month we're proud to announce a stellar line up of live action. We've been keen for WASHINGTON IRVING (http://www.myspace.com/washingtonirvingband) to play for ages and are delighted they're finally appearing at Pin Ups. BOYCOTTS (http://www.myspace.com/startaboycott) have recently supported The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Thermals, Cursive, Cage The Elephant and ex Pin Ups guests Art Brut. They also featured in Vic Galloway's "50 Bands to watch list for 2010" (sounds like Vic is hedging his bets ever so slightly by naming just the 50, but never mind) and are not to be missed. MALE PATTERN BAND (http://www.myspace.com/malepatternpage) are "3 very bored suburban youth" (bless their cotton socks) who formed in Autumn 2009 after years of musical get-togethers and bands and projects.
After the bands this month the Pin Ups DJs will be taking you through to 3am with their unique brand of musical mayhem. We've vowed to mix things up quite a bit this month so watch out for many a new dancefloor destroyer coming your way! (By "mix things up a bit" we mean that we have agreed that if any of us ever play certain "crutches" ever again the rest of us are entitled to chuck pints at them. Old-school motivation huh?)
We're sure all you lovely people know when and where to find us by now although each month we're amazed how many people tell us they never know when Pin Ups is on. To clarify, we are on at the Flying Duck on the LAST FRIDAY every month. We've had some legendary nights since we moved Pin Ups to the Duck back in 2008, and you've probably been to some and not even realised it's us! The photo gallery here might jog your memory and if you've never been along before it'll give you a great idea of what to expect: http://www.pinup-nights.co.uk/gallery/ All the Ladies Night snaps are in there too so feast your eyes if you came along last month.
Finally, you'll hopefully be delighted we're back to the normal Pin Ups price of £5 for everyone this month after spiralling costs meant we had to raise it a wee bit the last two months. If you can find a better value night in Glasgow for a bobby bargain fiver then we'll gouge out our eyes and toast them like marshmallows on the campfire for your delectation.
See you on 26th!!

ps John D. drew the slightly mental flyer over several hours, powered by an exotic cocktail of orange juice and tortilla chips. We can confirm that there is no need to worry and you won't be ejected from The Flying Duck if caught smooching outside a designated smooching zone...but which zone of all the different zone described will be your favourite? Check it out and choose one, or choose several.. http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e109/johnd456/?action=view&current=PinUpsMarch2010.jpg
pps already booked for the last Friday in May are Gold Future Joy Machine (http://www.myspace.com/goldfuturejoymachine ) from London! Have a listen, if your band fancy supporting them give us a shout...
ppps and we are preparing a second PIN UPS FESTIVAL for the last Friday in June - all the fun of a festival (straw! tents! stalls! flooded toilets!) condensed into 6 action-packed hours at the Flying Duck - already confirmed are the fantastic Sonny Marvello representing Glasgow, Futuristic Retro Champions representing Edinburgh, Guest DJ Scott Paterson of Sons and Daughters (representing err good music), with bands from further afield (pun intended) soon to be announced!
